Bota 1.3 released

Here's the new version of Bota. It adds in cool looking explosions and fixes the lasers to do full damage again. There's a few other minor balance changes too.

BOTA (basically OTA) is a variant of OTA with the biggest change being that the ranges have been scaled up for all units. It also fixes things that got broken on the move to spring(like neutron, stunner, anti-air damage, etc) and adds new effects and explosions. There are a lot of (mostly) small changes in unit stats, and a few other things such as artillery having longer range, amphibious tanks being tougher, and other things I felt like changing. There's also machine guns on planes because it's cool. Overall it's pretty close to ota and the units have the same roles as they did.

The mavericks fire gauss rounds. The ak's are the ones firing the lasers.
And it plays like OTA does. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

- Balance for planes adjusted due to flares no longer working in Spring
duh?
eh?..
not seen it much, but once played it.. not bad.
you must get a better name thor, as the changelog suggest you have moved a long way off TA, and it deserves it now. Just a suggestion.
ThorTA? (lolz, sounds like "cake" in spanish ^^)

Well i've just tested Bota:
at first i must say i started playing with a positive additude, cause i do like the idea of ranges being increased (did that for RA rules.ini aswell).
Things i now think about this mod are after a testrun of about an hour, and are personal, so you can take it or leave it.
- larger firing ranges are cool
- explosions are also nice
- gameplay is indeed faster pased
- longer ranged firing kinda destroys the balance OTA had:
defense towers (HLT f.e.) is just way to strong (1 tower can take out a squad of 12 mavericks, 2 sharpshooters and 8 zeuses are taken out easily
- personally i design maps that are based on firing ranges (defenses in particular):
The increased range makes alot of areas too easy to defend, or just impossible to hold.
my final 'verdict':
- nice to play for some fun action! really!
- not for me, destroys the quite perfect balance of the combination between units/defenses/map-layout

I'm sure that BOTA isn't for everyone, and I do agree, the name doesn't quite fit the gameplay. And for those who are used to the gameplay that AA offerse it is definately and aquired taste, myself, i actually played BOTA 1.0 before i ever played AA, which is partly to blame for my BOTA bias, but I also like because of the change in routine it offers. Seriously guys, do what Ice did and give it a chance.

hehe!
jeah, that's some weird sh1t right!!
well i mean, that once placed some defence on tho better defense-spots, other areas, that were safe before, cannot be taken anymore (held to match the word). U get the . ?

if defenses are OP
then holding areas is easier.
maybe your point stands for some ballistic weapons but not the run of the mill HLT/LLT

You aren't reading it right Min. What he's saying makes perfect sense.

Nope, consider an approach to an enemy base. Before, you might've been able to hold it, as the "safe" positions for the enemy to build his defences were too far back to prevent you from building defences on the "safe" positions on your end. Expand the defence range too much, and that stops being possible.
I think.

The way BOTA works is that if the HLTs hold a position you need to build Hammers or Lugers. Hammers are an effective and powerful unit in BOTA
*EDIT*
And u got to micro 'em too

Thanks for the replies.
It helps a lot to get line of sight on towers so your units can actually hit them. A single sharp shooter should be able to take one out without ever going in range. Vertical rocket launchers and artillery are also good against them.
If you want to do a head on attack zeuses and mavericks aren't exactly your best choices. Mav's are really powerful units if they can get in range, but they've got low hitpoints so HLT's tend to chew them up before they can get line of sight. Zeuses have more hitpoints, but they're slow and short range. Fidos are much better for attacking. They've got hitpoints and speed, and they can outrange towers if you have radar coverage. Their weakness is their lack of firepower, which isn't much of a problem when dealing with towers, but will screw you if they're defending with an army.
