nice to have someone who makes maps for FF :) thank you!

But personally i prefere these kind of asteroids Image
for 2 simple reasons:
- you can make them VERY flat so that units dont need to "climb" them
- they look much more like a real asteroid simply because these textures are real fotos from real asteroids and therefore it seems that they are really round

Ok they are a bit dark, but that is changebale in photoshop and space is dark.

But never the less: go on with the good work :)

I could crank out 10 of those maps with 'real looking asteroids' in the time it takes me to make one of mine. You use pictures of asteroids that are taken from many many miles away, up close an asteroid would look much different. Besides I've asked people in the community and all I get are positive responses; even some have said they wish all the other FF maps were designed like mine. I don't think I will ever use pictures of asteroids copy and pasted from some website into my maps. If I do it will be for the skybox only.

I don't see how you could prefer this (taken from FF-Surrounded (Even in top down I can see the lines where the plateau comes up and the asteroid is pasted on). And how is your asteroid flat? It is several times taller than mine!?!:

for me it looks much more realistic and i dont like when planes have to change their height after every asteroid ;)

also i dont believe that you can make 10 maps of them in the time you made yours. You put 2 maps in less than a week. I only needed more than one week only for my texturemap ;). You can only put one big pattern over the whole map and with the heightmap you make the asteroids. Thats not so difficult ;)

To the last screenshot. You never play FF from that perspective. And yours dont look sooo much better :D. FF is made for top down view.

You are all wrong and stupid and it makes me sad that I am the only one who knows it... too bad I'm too freaking lazy to prove it eh?

Your map designs are more suited for OTA not spring. Lots of people play in rotatable overhead camera mode. I always do, because without being in this mode it is hard to judge how high things area/where to place defenses/etc. Besides, FPS'ing ships is fun. And believe me I could crank out 10 maps in the time it takes for one of my style. Hell rendering the asteroids alone took like 8/9 hours. And please explain yourself about the height issue, I don't understand what your saying since your asteroids are much taller than mine.

exactly thats what i m saying ;). My asteroids are flat - therefore all units dont need to change their height much to fly over them. On your maps if you send a unit over an asteroid, the unit must fly over a mountain. For me that looks a bit odd.
And to the perspective: ok your asteroids look a bit better from the side, but still unrealistic and bad. And the maps are still the same as in OTA. A bitmap on a 3d area which cant make caves or flying asteroids where you can build on.
But go on with making maps for FF i just wanted to give you my suggestions. If you think you are doing fine its ok for me. I didnt want to slag your map.

I'm done with FF maps for now, I think my attention is better focused on a mod where my efforts are appreciated.

Well, you did kinda slag his map off! Personally i take gameplay over looks, and since FF has only a couple maps, encouragement would be the best way to get support for you mod here, but hey its your mod not mine...

to Hrmph: if you cant take any citique, perhaps you should stop every work you are doing. I mean if I would have done so, FF would never be gone over Version 0.3 or so.
Its absolutely normal that people have different oppinions but is that wrong? Arent they allowed to make suggestions or critique (negative). As long as the critique is constuctive that means: reasons and ways to make it better, i cant see any bad thing on that.
And you shouldnt care so much what other ppl think. You are doing things for YOURSELF not for anyone else. Especially if its your hobby. So i m sorry, but i cant see any mistake i have done. Should i lie when i like flat asteroids more? Sorry but i thought you could handle critique like most ppl do and not flee or cry.
You will earn critique in your whole live every time and it will not be only positive. Thats the trueth of life.

I handle critique fine when its not coming from someone whose works I believe to be inferior. I'm not going to work on FF maps because I think my efforts are best spent somewhere else. Besides you want me to make a map that has completely flat asteroids and uses pictures taken from some webpage - well I'm not going to do it.

I want you nothing. Its the way i did and i like - nothing more. You think my work is inferior thats fine to me. I can live with it but i sure will not stop any work cause of that. I will try to make my next map better (when i have the time for a map). You cant stop me :P. This is a forum where people help other people and that was all i wanted. Sorry that you missunderstood my try to help you (help from a inferior ).

BTW: a bit more metal pls, 1.8 from so few mexes is deadly for a 3 vs 3. I would make it 2.6 or so. (hint)

Optimus, those flatplane maps use TERRIBLE spring mapping practices. The skybox system looks several times more realistic and doesn't break from multiple angles. Why the hell would you slag off people mapping for your mod anyways?

omg. Please read my comments again and tell me where i wrote that i dont want him to make maps or that i told him his maps are odd in general.
But i stay at the point that high asteroids look odd:

Image
that was my first screen i made in 30 sec and i think you can have much more odd pictures. I hope you see what i mean...

Make the asteroids a lot smaller. They are generally pissing up los and making any ships with front firing weapons (Warlock etc) miss completley. It also makes the fighters fire less often because they keep banging into the floor :/

Sounds like a good reason for me to double the cruisealt of everything in low fat FF.

Besides, its more fun when ships die and they *really* fall out of the sky.
