Chess Mod V 0.1 [Released]

After much heartache and whining I have released my first Complete MOD, Secret Project C is revealed!!!

All models are by me, much help is credited in the ModInfo file, but Maelstrom Helped me by creating the team texturing and then going on to make everything else work that I had screwed up. Foe of TheBees and Ground_Zero were great support aswell as all y'alls in the forums.

Basically Each Chess piece can build each other chess piece, so you can basically start with your KING and then build the rest of the field.

When you "capture" a piece, just use the reclaim order. When you have a PAWN reach the far end of the board, build your replacement piece and then have the replacement piece reclaim the pawn and take it's place.

Maybe FizzWizz can make a nicer map with room for spectators around the edge matching my scale using the images from his other chess maps which inspired the map in the first place... feel free to rip my models as I release them into under the "use them but don't sue me or anyone else for using them" licence.

Have fun and get some nice shiney shots to show off.

Or... I could go to your house and play chest... like just walk over... in like 5 minutes... lol

maybe higher poly models. and the map needs a single line of squares extra outside in red or something so that u can put what u killed there. awesome mod :D white is OP though ;)

lol i think this mod is very cool and i agree with higher poly models, after all you dont have that many to do :P .
I have a sugestion though, make the game start with all the chess pieces evenly spaced. (If possible)

Higher Poly? 890 tris not enough for the king? 2044 tris not enough for the rook?

I know what you mean however, if I've only got a maximum of 32 pieces ever on th board I can go crazy.... But that basically means starting from scratch which isn't happening soon...

Go? I love go. anyone could pull off Go in 5 Minutes... Go ahead.

Better Map is something deffinitely needed, I'll see if I can whip something together, I was intending for "captured" pieces to get "reclaimed" and then play as com death... when player suceeds victory they CTRL+D their king and game over... your way, with sidelines (might as well also put on the rank and file markers (1-8Vert/a-hHori) out there too) is a good idea cause you get multiple games from one opponent... maybe even make it big enough to have extra players sitting in the sidelines... personally I was kinda Hoping FizzWizz would make a scaled down chess map for me (chess_b2 is so huge the maximum LOS coudln't see across the board, and it was impossible to zoom out far enough to see the whole thing at one time)

if somene could come up with a mod specific start script that could be acctivated from the lobby (not the current version) that would probably help... personally I enjoy building all of the pieces... that's what you mean by "evenly spaced" right?

Also, the one bug I can't fix, when you self D the king, I want him to bounce away a-la-lego tank pieces instead of just disapearing...

lol man, im loving it.
playing chess in spring.
however i have a suggestion to make..
plz make the pieces with no team color and force them to the correct colors and make black dark brown so that it can be visible on black squares :P

another thing is sometimes pieces go flying away from the map dunno why or they just refuse to move to a square, but other than that its perfect :-)

I think that "pieces go flying away" thing is a glitch with the map being to small... or some glitch about them being VTOLs... devs any ideas?

Also... what you could do is send me a tga formatted image with the colour/textures you want and I could add additional teams for those colours...

Call Them "Classic" and "Pearl" or something...

Heh, what if we give them all weapons labled disintergrator or something so you can command them to fire when ever it takes an oponment's piece?

i think the mod is really great.
apart from all minor tweaks its chess at Spring :-) .
ive been playing it all day eheh.
very creative and sharp :wink: .
i look forward to see some updates on this regarding pieces fixed colors and some other neat stuff u might come up with 8)

just work on making pieces work on ALL pcs! on mine they are all the same color

EDIT: and no dont come with patronizing bullshit, i had people on different sides and team colors, always with same result!

do you have problems with team colours with other mods?

Edit: If I Make the Solid Colour Teams as mentioned before that should fix the problem... but I think this is a bug that needs reporting... my guess is a problem with your spring's interpretation of S30's

for a reason that im not aware of some ppl get this..
there was another guy wich i played throughout the whole day that had the some problem but i couldnt find the issue since its not easy when the problem is not in me.

Yeah... I've been poking at it... looks like my uv mapping got all corrupted so I need to re-export everything... and maybe figure out how to touch up the seams in a UV mapped object...
