I hate the shadow of smoke

BTW,why we can't hear the sound of units' detonation

Okay, I get your point.
The shadow of smoke acts like smoke is solid.
The shadow should be more transparant.
But the way you bring it isn't what we generally accept here.
You don't 'hate' the shadows of smke. you dislike them
And you at least spend more then one line towards it. Bring a solution if possible.
The sound of units detonation? explain?

sorry,My English is so BAD.....
in battle field, there is a lot of smokes,so they reduce the performance, make the game running slowly.
and
as you said
'The shadow of smoke acts like smoke is solid. '--so unreal
'The shadow should be more transparant. ' -- it would better be to remove the shadows of smoke
So I think shadows of smoke maybe removed.
'The sound of units detonation'
I mean that when units destroyed we can hear the sound of explode in OTA,but we cant in Spring. it seems Spring gives them up.

Spring doesn't support softshadowing. Real smoke has a shadow, as it blocks light. I've always liked the fact that smoke shadows in spring, even though granted it isn't increadibly realistic the way it's done. I'd MUCH rather not see it removed.
I could have sworn unit detonations made a sound in spring...

Depending on the amount of damage caused by explosions dictates how loud the explosion sound is going to be.
In XTA I did notice sounds are not very well heard though.

In Spring, sounds are only played when the camera are close to the units.
Normally when you are zoomed out pritty far, you don't hear them.
I suggest it should be made possible you can set the distance the camera is away from the source for the sound to be played.
Same with the put smoke's shadow on/off.
Let the player dicide what he likes best.

I like smoke as it is, softshadowing for smoke would be even better.
But smoke slows down my computer a lot sometimes and it's not very nice........

I always thought that the shadows of smoke gave corpse fields a nice touch.

Being able to turn off smoke would be a great thing to have in the settings - Spring runs great on my computer on the lowest settings, but big booms and clouds of smoke slow it to unplayability. A commander death pretty much just freezes my game for 4-8 seconds, depending on what else is going on.
Maybe its time to upgrade >_>

Commander death is supposed to cloud the battlefield and leave people guessing as to exactly what is exploded and what they still have to work with under the slowly lifting haze. Missle smoke is nice but doesn't seem nessicary, but I wouldn't want to see comm death smoke being removed.

There's gameplay enhancing smokescreen, and there's my comp turning into a slideshow (sub 5 fps, or even just freezing) until the smoke clears.
Not much to wonder about, anyways. Only one boom that big.

Players who's computers don't freeze to death can't really see what's happening either, so it isn't a massively overwhelming disadvantage.

Still, I whoould be nice if I couuld stop the lag that huce amounts cause. It's not too bad on the 3.2Ghz I normaly paly on, but it gets to be unliveable when I play LAN games.(Because I have to play on a slower computer with a ban graphics card. I'm not saying LAN games are normaly slow). With most games you can either turn off the smoke or it doesn't lag the game.
I'm not saying that both are a problem, just that one or the other should be changed. Smoke causes more slowdown for me than shadows, but I can turn off shadows.

It would also be an unfair disadvantage to the players who WERE blinded by the smoke, even if they weren't lagging.
Comm explosion smoke is there for a reason. You can't turn off smoke grenade smoke in CS and that lags up some computers as well.
If there were a low quality smoke option I wouldn't be opposed to that, but com smoke is there for a good reason and shouldn't be removable from the game.

I wouldn't mind this either, but it seems unfair both ways in the meantime. It's not so much when the commander dies but when decoy commanders die.

When your in a mod where some weapons generate smoke on impact and you have a lot of them the slowdown becomes unbearable....

A smoke quality option would be great! I really hate it when there is a big boom/lots of smoke and the fps drops to 1
