Possibility of limiting new users

How difficult would it be to get phpbb to limit new users to posting in like only Help & Bugs for the first lets say week?

Maybe limit the number of threads they can create during that same period of time?

We seem to be attracting crackheads.. Lazy ones at that... 8)

I think it would be a better idea to just prevent them posting new threads untill they've got about 10-20 posts.

I think either of those ideas would be alright, as long as they aren't abused, but is it possible to set up the forum to have those checks?

Not without some modifications. But it wouldnt be that hard to do. But if the reaction to my forum modification idea is anything to go by, this is likely to just get ignored. And I even supplied code to my modifications.

I say no, many people won't bother posting at all if they can't post thier own idea thread to begin with. As annoying as they are monthly topic rotation posts are hardly catastrophic, and they often introduce a new active member to the comunity. It's rediculous to expect noobies to troll through the entire wiki rather then just asking a question they have here, and they often contribute elsewhere after they have thier short topic. Where would people go to say "hi"?

I think it may just be a bot account so people will follow the link it lists as it's website... However, we'll see if it starts posting. I can't do anything about it anyways... I don't know if we even have any policies regarding bot accounts.

Heh I'm not sure... its an alright idea but I don't know how well it would work out... I can understand why you'd want it though I'm so damn sick of people posting questions instead of bothering to look around and find the answers themselves... espescially when its something as pointless as "does this engine have limitations"

I think that any n00b askign questions like that is expecting us to point him to the real FAQ... some document that acctually covers everything.. but their really isn't anything beyond the wiki and all the variouse pages that it links top... it's very frustrating to try to find out something when you havn't the foggiest where to start... I had that experience today...

Spring grows, and we get new players. Cope with it.
To restrict them to half a board, is silly. They feel more left out then they are feeling now. Becouse if they post, they very probably get a hars answer (well, they do get answerd).

I think a feature request forum would be a better idea, or an announcement on the main forum index with a link to mantis saying put feature requests here.
