[Map Release] The Chess Board (with new pictures) (b2)

I've released a new map: The Chess Board. There are no chokepoints, no high ground, no gimmicks, only Pure Tactics.
The map is an 8x8 chess board set on a 10x10 table. This is only a beta version, as I am not settled on certain particulars of this map. This was intended as a map for Nanoblobs, but I've added metal patches to accomodate all other Spring mods.
Currently, there is one geothermal vent on each side (in the King's square), and 7 metal patches that yield approximately +1.4 each. In this version, there are also 4 starting positions too, which should make the map a little more friendly for games with AI players.
Additionally, there is no 'Sky' on this map. That is temporary, and I intend to do something interesting about that in a future version.
Picture time:
Minimap of the Chess Board, showing start positions
Arm Base
a kbot lab bites the dust
Arm incursion and air defenders
The Core Commander is in hot water
"OHHH SHII-"
-Last words of a Maverick
Vamp's-eye view of a calamity
Fallout from the explosion

Well that's one way of making sure your map is tiled...

You totally need some chess pieces, it should be pretty simple.
I understand that you want it to be wide open terrain, but it's a matter of principle, even if it's just have a couple scattered around... otherwise it looks teh awsomes.

Plus, checkers peices woul be easier to model, and could even be made out of terrain if your really lazy.

model them, that way instead of 1 piece you can make lots of shattered pieces and assembly them together so that when they blow up they shatter.

*bangs head against wall*
nooo....... your units are the chess pieces, don't you get it, people?
*sigh*
It completely boggles my mind why people want chess pieces on the board, (they would only get in the way, imo), and if I added chess pieces, it would throw off the mex placement too. However... I suppose I will make the pieces if everyone insists. I have a marble chess set, so I'll have something to work with.
[edit] Maybe I'll do checkers instead... then I could place mexes on the odd tiles, and the checkers will work better as natural DTs for your base... sorta. I like Chess a whole lot more than checkers though, even if I hardly play it anymore... in my gut I'd prefer to do chess pieces.[/edit]

I thought i had seen some wird ass maps.
This one takes the big wird map cake. Excelent job! Useualy i hate maps that are mostly flat, but the entire point of this map is that its absolutly flat! Also dose the terrain deform or not?

The Marble hardness is 1000, the wood hardness is 500. I'm thinking of increasing it ten-fold, just to be super-safe.

Come on, a litthe deformation can't hurt. I hate that all maps nowadays NEVER have craters, no matter how hard you pound the ground.

Whoa. Played through American McGee's Alice a couple of weeks ago and this map gave me a huuge flashback

Yes, there should probably be less metal. And please! How can you even think about blowing up a chessboard? I'd say, add at least two zeroes to those numbers

For your units to be the chess pieces the map should be like 1/4 its current size. (or less..).

well, I meant to say that your units were the Chess pieces, but only in a figurative sense.

hmm... I don't understand. I didn't mean to make any joke, or at least I don't think of it as such.

man , the idea is uber cool.
but for a complete coolness you need to gather 6 features (chess pieces) and put them on

.
in that way we'd really be fighting on a chess board for real. (instead of in the figurative way

)
hmm i got a idea for the skybox but it might be very hard or either not cool wich is 2 guys "laying" over the board (like 2 real ppl playing chess) and maybe a set behind them, dunno.
