Multiple players controlling one player

I think this would be awesome! it goes like this: If you die while playing team games, you can join to the alive player in your team, and you could use his units and do anything what you want, but you cant use his commander.
But if that starts getting annoying, you could use command which disallows the dead player using your units.
If this sounds too heavy, lets say you could only use some building bot and you could only build defense or something like that.
What do you think?

the easiest way to do this would simply to allow sharing to a dead ally, and prevent the automatic "you are dead=you are a spectator" thing that allows the dead player to see the whole map.
to be practical, if your buddy has 3 units left in his base, sharew him a con some energy and metal storage in your base so he can help out after he's "dead"

but then there would be no reason to finish off a player, as for all practical purposes all the enemy would be the same player.
I am against it.

Umm... you can already do this. Make your team number the same as another guys' team number, but you just share commanders, and I *THINK* if you make a diff color but same team #, you can control the other guys' units if you die... Can't you?

Yes. Too bad that's not what he's asking for. As far as I can tell, he is asking for a mode in which, when you die, you can share a teammate's units rather than becoming a spec. I would be against such a mode, for the same reason as Lindir.

I've done this before by activating ".cheat" and ".team X"ing to my allies team... problem is you get switched to spec automatically when you die so you get a quick view of the enemies positions on the minimap... I think it's not a bad idea and not too hard to implement, but I'm pretty sure it would be exploited too much.

Perhaps when you lose all your units, you don't die. Maybe a spectate button can come up, but if you can bum some cons off of an ally you can stay in the game. Hitting the Spectate would effectively and officially remove you from playing status.

It'd be great for social games. Make it a default "off" toggle.
It'd be brilliant for friendly teams games vs the "Future AI" at some time in the "future". So if a noob mate gets stomped by all 4 AI player's deadly well-executed rushes at once, he can immediately get back in the action, watch, help, and learn.

Great idea. Would stop those who leave when they die.

I don't really like this idea. Ihmo the whole system must be rethinked.

But I'm all for this one. Like that, your allie can still give you some units.
A control windows ala warcraft3 where you can choose who can control your units with you and who can't would be good too. (but you still have your own army)

i love this idea... sorry i reposted it tho

i had a similar idea at the same time
except i would of said that there should be another pannel like the "h" command to give a unit to another player except the unit is controlled by both players..
so its not really at the dead players discression.. the problem is that after your dead your dead, after youve seen the opponents stuff but i dunno how easy it would be to implament

Yeah there's a reason - he's gonna be behind by a reasonably large margin

.
Though if you let the living players just donate units, it does mean the other side gets to retain access to his unit count. If you implement a system where the dead player can have units 'delegated' to him, but have those units count to the original owners count, you can eliminate this issue.
Probably best as a toggle.
