Search Engine for maps, or some sort of approval process?

The Map list is starting to get really huge. I think we're going to need to be able to search for them. Or there needs to be a certain level of quality control to keep the numbers down to something manageable.

What do you think?

Well, there is an option to rate the maps. But that goes by everyones taste.
Sortable on size, type, and recomended players could be usefull.
another thing for betalord? Oh my, the devs can't handle our endless flow of requests.

We need to add a tag ( not unlike ID3 for music files ) for maps. Such things as size, max players, tileset, a few other descriptions would be excellent for this purpose.

How often played online is a very important statistic, as mentioned in the other thread.

You could always keep a log of how many times/how long its been since the map was last downloaded. That way you could maybe have the top 100 and get rid of the stuff at the bottom that doesn't play well and introduce new ones in their place.

Of course that could mean that people only end up playing the top 10 all the time and there's a lack of variety. That happened in TA - the same 10 or 15 maps all the time. It got horrifically boring. Luckily this doesn't seem to be the same with Spring. People are more interested in trying new ones.

I noticed that when you click the blank minimap in the multiplayer battleroom sometimes it brings you to the right map on the map list. Sometimes it just brings you to the top and you have to go look. Is there some sort of ID tag on them at the moment?

Well, if you local maplist already has the map in it, then it will jump to the map.

If it jumps to the top, then it can just mean that:
a) you have to refresh the maplist (via the update bottom)
or

b) the map isnt on fileuniverse.[/code]
