I'm just putting out a feeler to see how many people here know how to make good high-detail models. Well? Post below if you have prior experience, preferably with an example of something you've modeled.

smoth whistles and traces a line onto the ground with his left foot. With a startled cry he is awoke from his contemplative dream and says...
ME ME!
as he jumps up and down like a girl...

I can model but it's not something I do a lot or particularity like to do.

I can model if I have to, but not very well. Im better in Maya than in Wings, but as I cant export from Maya anyways, that doesnt help much.
(PLE version, not the full version. Thats why I cant export)

Well I'm buzy with redoing the core silender. More about that here:

I will, very probably, work on other units as well.
I'm using Maya as well, but I can export

I haven't found a modeling suite that doesn't confuse the fuck out of me and contantly have me going "how the hell do I do this?" or "how the hell do I do that?".

You're referring that there is a program that has a googol features and let you instantly know how to use them. It's like reading LOTR in 5 min and know each line.
But while you're searching, try Maya (it has a wonderfull help file, with tutorials of every feature and where to find things and everyting!)

Maya is overkill, wings is very easy to use and can now, thanks to the wonderful insight of smoth, uv map.

YOu mean you made it based on GPLed licensed stuff? and also its a blender file?
but, you didnt answer, how you got it.
for the font, will i guess its just the extrude and vebel... but the part of the logo?
is it made from a nurbs surface? but you had the image of the widgings character in the background and you did "copy" it?
i saw that part of the model is full of creases... what did you used that for?
im not a modeller either, but will give it a try on reproducing it. not that i can beat that.

I made it it's based on the background file.
How I got it?
What do you mean with that?
If you like to know how I made it, would have to read the blender book again for the specific functions.
But I made a ring, made a nurbs cross section of the logo, attached it to the ring, made the nurb cross section duplicate itself around the ring.
After that I made the duplicates "real" and removed the unneeded nurbs.
Made some of the cross sections smaller.
Then I used the skinning tool (I believe) to attach a skin to all the cross sections.
Last touch was a ring for the inside and the Spring text.
And a lot of tweaking.
Creases?
Did you mean to call my work fugly? (Fucking Ugly)
Or do we have a misunderstanding?

No misunderstanding, i did call it fucking ugly but dont take it so heartedly.
It doesnt look good to me, but it may for others.
also you seem to like it very much, as ive seen it very often.
Creases are a feature of blender iirc, it allows you to round corners and other interesting stuff dont really know how to use.
In the viewport it looks marked as yellow lines..
but those yellow lines were the nurbs handlers not creases.
Well at least im learning from it.

I personally don't really like the font and the logo could use a texture.
But at some point I have to say it's done, there is always version 3.0
And I don't like one liners without any constructive criticism.
So, what exactly do you think is fugly about it?

I have done some experimental units. But i havent done any nice textures for them yet and the scripts are veary buggy but i'm doing progress.

i think i can model too. The problem is, that i cant use all features, but i m still learning with 3dsmax.
Here are some of my works :)
this was my first made model ever... as everyone can see its Lara Croft :D
i bet she own all the other lara doubles
After months of training i modeled this nice mech and animated it, but animation is for me a real torture:
and now i m modelling for FF like u can see in the thread for this mod.

I tried to model once, lets not go there again. XD
Although I'm willing to give it a rip again if someone is kind enough to answer my stupid questions and a push along the way.

Your asking the wrong question. What matters is who can UV map and Texture├óÔé¼┬ª
