Spring RTS Engine

I just found this really cool site that just recently supports TA Spring.

I think its a great way to set a solid community for us, just look at what they did with the other games.

WOW! You find that URL almost 24 hours after someone else posted just about the exact same thing, in this forum! In fact, that thread is an entire four spots below this one as I type this! Hats off to your astute observation.

that topic doesnt talk about the site at all, it talks about how its growing and I don't think you might get new players from it.

The site could be where you guys actually act as a community.

We just let 23,000 people know about Spring Project. Should get some more activity here and even more online :).

GameReplays.org wants to support cool mods (we did for Boss Generals for example) and with replays and therefore proper gameplay discussion possible (only possible with replays tbh) this is perfect. We'll have some tournaments and maybe even get Spring Project into clanwars (our partner site - http://www.clanwars.cc).

But looking at the Gamereview forums, there seems to be much confusion about how spring works (mods, map downloading, ect).

Most people dont seem to ever heard of TA there. Maybe somebody should take the burden of registering there and giving some hints onto him/herself.

I know there's some mixed opinions over weather the timing was the best, or wether this or that or some other weird argument I don't care about... But in the end I think I speak for all of us when I say: Darky, we apreciate the <3 :D

ISM: I did register, but it seems I'm locked out of posting on many of the threads I'd like to post hints and what not for... Gamereviews runs a bit of an intimidating forum system compared to the open policies I'm used to.

The big problem, besides the ones I constantly moan about, is that it would be illegal to distribute Spring with, for instance, freeciv as you mentioned. Spring may only be downloaded and used on the condition that you already have TA. That will cover the SYs about as much as Rosie O'Donnell would be covered with a washcloth in the event that Atari got their panties in a wad about copyright issues. The fact is, it is illegal to distribute the files that they distribute. We need copyright-free mods before SYs can even consider the idea of distributing or widely advertising Spring. Anyone who downloads Spring without owning TA prior to it is breaking copyright law, and the fact that the SYs have no means of certifying that people who download Spring already own TA doesn't cover them in court. Frankly, it's brave almost to the extent of foolishness to even put Spring on the net for download...

Well, i guess its REALLY time to kill the old cavedog asserts.
Spring is just getting just too much into the spotlight.

I seriously think it would be a rotten idea to get a slashdot frontpage as long as there are still the original cavedog soundeffects and buildpics, for example, in the standart distribution.

Maybe the time until the linux codemerge finally is over could be used to eleminate that stuff one by one?
