Map Request

I have a request to make a map of Europe. I started to make the map but photoshop messed up on me and now i have to find the cd to install it again :(. I did however finish a heightmap, a metal map, and a feature map. Since this was the first time i was making a map, they might not be so great but you can change them and touch them up. I wasnt sure on the size limit of map in TASpring so I started to make the map a 64X48 or somewhere around there i believe. I know this is a huge map but i love having huge battles, i hate crowded maps. i wasn't too sure on how to exactly make the feature map so all of the things(trees, grass, and vents) are on one layer. I also didn't know how to create start positions so those arent included yet. Is there anyone who would be interested in doing this? It would be greatly appreciated.

Europe's landscape is a little larger then we traditionally shoot for with TAS mapping scales... I guess once someone did egypt... so it isn't unheard of, but I've always though of the scale of a map to be about 20 or so acres, not a full continent large.

ya, i know its larger than what i even made but i think it would even make for a cool map as the size it is. to have it to actual scale i think we would have to wait until supreme commander. Me and a friend just came up with the idea to have it because you can have land, air and sea play a major part in the entire map. its kinda balanced out. heres an image of the heightmap, at least as far as i got with it

Image

its just a small screen shot but its 4096 X 3072

Caydr got some pre made height maps off a nasa site somewhere for his world map, perhaps they also have high-rez height maps of europe? Its worth a try, and will save you alot of work

64X48? thats a 64000 x 48000 pixel map. the bmp file of a map that big would be 2,5 gigs or so. can u handle such files?

A 64x48 map would have a 32768 by 24576 sized texture. Which, if I remember my maths correctly, would make a (32768 pixels * 24576 pixels) * 3 bytes per pixel = 2,415,919,104 bytes = 2.25 GB .bmp file. Good luck.

You're better off doing smaller areas to a greater degree of accuracy.
