Big Brother is Watching: gov't subpoenas Search Engines

I was told that the Homeland Security Agnecy or the FBI or some agency like that was attempting to or was considering getting a subpoena on Google. Ostensibly, it would be to ferret out people who search for child pornography and terrorists and such, but I wouldn't put it past the current administration to abuse the access it would get. However, I can't find an article to back that up. Could someone confirm or debunk this?

[edit] I found it: http://www.buffalonews.com/editorial/20 ... 070632.asp

Sounds rather farfetched. Also how would they implement it? The internet is one of the most fluid and impossibly hard place to police!

Havent they played Splinter Cell?

I was under the impression that google filtered massive ammounts of offencive/illegal content... Google can't stop people from typing "child porn" or "how to make bombs" into thier search box though.

I belive this is the article you're looking for.

Good thing that I don't live in the US :P

God Damn, the Degenerates that run our country will sink lower to no end, will they? You'll also notice in that article that the white house has already gotten Yahoo to squeal like a stuck pig, and apparently several others that are unspecified. At least Google has the backbone to stand up to these bastards.
Even if you don't live in the U.S. Foxomaniac, it doesn't mean that any queries you put into Google won't be turned over with the rest of them.

Oh, and by the way, Google has the right according to their ToS to view anyone's email they want. If google caves in and lets the government inspect things, I sure hope nobody on here used the word "bomb" in any of their gmail accounts...

Damn...if my form of Democracy was true that every time someone in the Gov't did something dumb, everyone who thought that they where doing something dumb would push a big red button. Everyone who though they where doing RIGHT would press a bid GREEN button.

If more people pressed Green buttons then Red buttons, the person in charge would feel really good. If enough people pushed Red buttons then they would feel bad. How good/bad they feel is the differece between howmany green buttons and red buttons. So if a LOT of people agree, then they feel really good. If a lot of people dissagree they will hurt alot.

Ah...stuipid real world...dosnt meet my specifications....
