New map conversion project -Sail Away

At forbidden's request I am in the process of converting the ota:CC map sail away to spring.
Only thing is I need tropical trees.
My request is for a modeler to make the a tropical tree or two. I can make it look right as long as I have the features.
THis game needs tropical features anyway.
Here is a preview pic of the terrain. It's not finished yet and needs a bit of work but as it stands this is my concept so far. Please do not bother cuitiqueing the terrain as I am nowhere even close to being done. THis is simply a pliminary view of what it could look like (in a way).
Thanks guys

Now, when you say that the terrain isn't finished, do you refer to the texture or the heightmap? Or both? I hope that's not the final texture anyway, the tiling is so obvious.
Does Sail Away have any geo vents? Remember you'll have to sacrafice those if you want trees. Or, uh, anything else that's even mildly interesting. BUGGI! WHERE'S SHARPMAP???!

the tiling is only obvious @ the water bottom so when it's filled with water it's not a issue really

umm I'm not done with either.
Also, that is a super zoomed out view considering that the map is 12 x 20 so saying that the tiling is obvious is like looking at a minimap and saying, Hey I see tiles! ;P

http://dasbruce.darkstars.co.uk/palm.zip Blocky and polygon heavy, but it kept me entertained for 5 minutes.

I made a palm model as well, it's much less detailed than Das Bruce's, but has less than a tenth the number of polies in Wings3D.
It's actually based on a palmetto across the street from me, so if I shorten the trunk by a lot and scale down the entire thing, I can make it a palmetto scrub to complement Bruce's palm, if you'd like that.

that sounds great dude!
I will jsut not use too many of bruces palms and do more with the scrubbs.
Question tho... Can you get these models ready to go in spring for me as well?
On a side note, I would like to release a feature pack of all user made features for spring so that anyone can use them.

Well, I'd have a problem getting the models Spring-ready for two reasons:
1) I cannot for the life of me figure out how to texture either in Wings + LithUnwrap or in Blender. Don't get me wrong - I could most likely make a texture given a UV map of the object - I just can't figure out the mechanism for "unwrapping" the models, saving the unwrapped image, and the applying the unwrapped image as a texture once finished.
2) I don't know how to convert models to Spring features. I have Upspring and doodled around with it a little bit, but couldn't figure out how to work it with the little time I spent.
Both of these could be solved with good tutorials, though, so if anyone knows of any, I'd be indebted.

Ahh, SA is a classic.
There are no geos that I can remember. It is looking good. Just hope it plays just as good as the original, if not better :D
