Trees don't burn to into dead trees

I'm sure that this is a modeling issue, or something like that, but I'd like to see a burnt forest after watching a forest fire.

On a similar note, it also seems that a burnt forest would be really easy to drive over. Burned out trees don't have much physical strength and should probably be plowed over by anything... (Just noting this cause I've noticed not everything can plow down a standing tree.)

Already possible.

Hmm... Indeed. I think... Right? You'd just have to have a multi-state feature, and those are easy. But where are tree models stored? Are they randomly generated, maybe? That would kill the idea pretty fast.

the trees ought to be in the /base folder, but I cannot find anything on them except in \Spring\base\spring\springbitmaps_v061.sdz, where there are some birch pictures. Huh, I was always under the impression that the trees were just regular features stored somewhere in the /base stuff.

If you check out your Spring options panel, you'll find:

3D Trees (needs vertex_program)

Leads me to believe they're generated on the fly based on certain characteristics. If they were just models, you wouldn't need any fancy features.

oh no! hardcoded features!

on a similar point, I wonder if Spring trees still have .tdf files, because then you could make burnt trees by giving trees a burnt tree corpse, the way you can beat a unit into a wreckage, and then beat the wreckage into rubble.

I tried making pyro's corpse burnable (which worked) and setting that corpse to make the unburnable one. However, once the feature burns up, it doesn't leave anything behind. :(
