A quick aesthetic updated to the classic Tabula to fix a few things that bothered me about an otherwise great map:

Download:http://springfiles.com/spring/spring-maps/tabula-2

Image
-Proper specular added that isn't just white noise

Image
-Detailtextures updated to ones that don't look super pixellated up close

Image
-Unit lighting improved to not wash out everything into a dull red

You undid that beautiful battle in the evening atmo?

Why? Thats what made it outstanding..

There is this fancy thing called mood of a painting.
Image

This sun is about to set? Well of course it paints everything in the landscape orange, red or at night grey by absence. And that is a good thing.

Image

That is the quint essence of tabulav4 - a feeling of battleweariness that everyone should get when something has obviously gone on for a whole day, and starts to linger on into the night.

You could - no you should have extended that.. a very slow sunset widget ...
Image

Instead you delete it? You know even as part of the Olympus Mont of spring mapping
>BARherith -beeing busy elsewhere
>Forb -EvoVoEva
>Smoth -Busy working on TGFIYKAG -TheGameFormerlYKnownAsGundam
slacking off this much frowned upon.

Sorry, i know, you should never go full Art Tard, but i test on that map. Every day, from 9 to 9 and while i might approve the remaking of the speculars - the ignoring of a core theme-
SHALL NOT PASS.

Return this to the -------, inform the chef, that is solid woodgood.

that specular looks bad. It looks like you ran a plastic filter on it.

I was gonna address some critique in this thread, but it annoys me that people are complaining about things I haven't even changed.

Sky and features are all the same. Spec could probably be better but without access to source texture generation it's hard to isolate specific materials. Use V4 if you don't like this one.

Ground texture looks great.

oh, i shall - but well you usually do good work. But even if you put personal taste asside, this has some issues.

There is a grassplat on the rocks.. and some of the rocky cliffs have no splat at all

Finally the splatmap beneath the river would be diffrent i guess.. sunlight through water does things

Also people getting emotional on your works is a praise in itself- you touched a electrifying spot and now it arcs..

Or would you rather have some generic praise? Thats a can do...

Great job. Why not put it to the other -great jobs, so i may find it the day - i get really really bored and decide to crawl every board from present to past

Hi, thx for reworking on it.

I don't want to bother, but I saw that there are no internal name (blank value), also there are several version of the Tabula in map dir.

Tabula V6 now...

Could you fix it ?

Several different versions exist in map folder because heightmap and texture is fine and doesn't need to be recompiled. Is the .smd description actually important for anything?

Yes, because I just made a widget a few days ago that shows map name/description at the bottom-left of the map.

When you filter (impossible) or select map in SpringLobby, you don't see the name, it's blank.

Internal name is also required for adding it to hosts for conf file.
Thx !

Yes - the smd/mapinfo name is used by lobbies (& afaik by spring itself) to identify the map and the description is displayed in some form by most lobbies, maybe also on springfiles/plasmaserver.

I'm still not clear on what "internal name" is, that's not a tag that exists anywhere in the .smd file. Is this the same thing as map description?

Map appears as Tabula-v6 when loaded in spring.exe for me so I don't see the problem with it.

Ugh, I just realized that unit and ground ambience tags have been misspelled since forever with this map. That's why units appeared washed out as they had black ambient light, not due to red direct lighting. This map needs more work then I thought but it should look way better by the time I'm done.
