Familiar with VM or similiar? Testers for spring needed

Testers needed for lobby/installers of evo which is on steam greenlit since a few days.

There is now preloading the engine and gamefiles among other changes, but it needs testers.
Especially testing on a blank system, on which no spring has been installed previously.

Deleting spring installs every time takes too much time and is not 100% reliable, if some config files or whatever are left over.

If you know how to use virtual machine software (or similiar things) that allows you to completly wipe all spring of the computer, would be nice if you can test.

Things to especially watch out for:
-Does it download all the files?
After initial download, when you join an evo-host you should be instantly synced. Nothing (like map) should be downloaded a 2nd time.

-How long is the delay when unitsync scanes all the archives? (or whatever)
Is it almost instantly or does it take some minutes?
Does lobby appear as if it crashed, during this time?

I used my existing vmware machine with windows 8 release preview. It ha nothing else installed except steam and evo.

It seems that the C:/Users folder is set to read only by default, and that's what creates most problems:

It didn't help to uncheck that read only box because the next time you open that same window the files are still read only.

I blame the umlaut.

Maybe, or the space in "My Documents". But it's still weird that it is read only. I didn't bother with more advanced stuff like taking ownership etc.

So download never worked?
Were there any files created in spring folder?
Maybe, or the space in "My Documents".
Think in that case many more people woud get similiar error.
Can you try with a different Username with no umlaut?

No files were created. Maybe this windows version is a bit weird, but even if the folder appears as read only, I can still create folder and files in it. I also checked the System has full rights to it.

Anyway, it worked with the other account i created: "John". It worked as far as downloading the stuff etc, but it won't start the game because it can't find openGL drivers. This new install of win 8 in vmware machine comes with some kind of "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". Not going to troubleshoot that any further nbecause I don't think it's releavant.

Thanks a lot Jools. On your John account did you have to download the game from the lobby or was it already there? Is SteamApps/common/EvolutionRTS/evo_data empty?

From the steam lobby? The steam lobby was empty when I got there, but when I found the game and pressed "Play Now" it appeared as if it was already installed. I didn't have to install it from steam again. This "John" is a second "local account" created on this win8 machine, I didn't reinstall whole windows, so the "Mörkus" one is still present. (Microsoft wants you to create online accounts anyway, it's a pain...)

There is no evo_data folder there. Sorry for the images but I can't get copy pasting to work from the virtual machine:

It is the umlaut combined with steam's slow proliferation of new depot files.

Ok, I always make funny names when testing. But I think that's good.
