without more details i can't help. pr-downloader is right, there is no engine version 96, only 96.0 is valid.
this is how it works:
pr-downloader --download-engine 96.0

He was one of new players so that is all details there is
i dont think he was using pr-downloader as commandline tool,
just from within lobby.
So that is the correct error one would expect for
pr-downloader --download-engine 96
? then maybe lobby is calling it wrong?

very likely. i saw a game which used "spring" as engine version too, weblobby seems to have some really weird bugs related to multiversion / hosting battles.

The only thing I can think of is the host of the battle created the room with the version as 96 instead of 96.0. GIGO.

some hosts had set it to much more worse stuff. please check usage of OPENBATTLE / implement the cl compatibility flag.

That's a *very* common problem. I usually search for song lyrics in Spanish and the accents are replaced by symbols like those on 95% of all lyrics pages too.
If someone wonders it says " the operation completed correctly"
