Working, so no time for details, but just got an email from steam with the title that evo got greenlit on steam. I haven't even opened it yet. I'll report back with more details when I'm off work.

This weekend's evo event might be... bigger?
Either way, congrats!

Zero-K is not "too powerful", it's "too old" being still stuck on 91.0.

Ok, so signed up and everything, looks good so far.
Does anyone here have any interest in seeing if we could link up the multiplayer matchmaking system to spring somehow?

Good job, but I have to ask, how will it work with steam?
What lobby are you using, and how will you integrate it with steam? You can't really start spring.exe right away, can you?

Gajop, will probably be using a standalone weblobby build which will point to weblobby.evolutionrts.info
The address just implements settings changes. Most notable are:
Join evolution, main, en and newbies channels
Filter all but Evo games (filter is easy to remove... bright red X for it)
Make weblobby prettier than default color scheme:

Ideally later on down the line, the spring devs could work out how to tap into steam's api for matchmaking and achievements.
Steam apparently has some sort of lobby system as well. But for the moment, it'll probably be similar to going and downloading weblobby standalone.
One of the biggest issues is the fact that spawned springie hosts default to spring
91 instead of 96.

Just in time, Valve is planning to shut down greenlight relatively soon. Estimates I read were end of this year/around start of next year.

The understanding that it's a public link, otherwise you wouldn't be able to access it?

Very cool. I followed the project. What things can players do to help out on Steam?

Hmm, well tbh just being present in the evolution channel will be a big help. I already created a build and pushed it to steam. It's straight up weblobby with a custom launch parameter that does what I mentioned above.
I'm going to ping flozi and ask him to open up the evo subforum on this forum again. I'm worried that I'll get a dedicated steam forum that I very much don't want, but I'll direct all forum traffic that I can here.
I have almost everyone needed to push it live already done. I'm going to try to have it ready for saturday

I wonder how hard it could be to integrate accounts with steam / make it upload achievements...

Don't embarrass us dude! (I kid, super-enthusiastic congrats!)
Anarchid wrote:I wonder how hard it could be to integrate accounts with steam / make it upload achievements...
SteamWorks API is required for integrated accounts/matchmaking/peering stuff... it's my understanding that we can't couple to the closed source commercial SteamWorks API under the current SpringRTS licence (would require a custom closed-source version of spring.exe)... it seems like a pretty common issue for OpenSource games though so it sounds like Valve might be investigating ways around it but until they do EVO won't be allowed to do official Steam Achievements.
