All S44-authored Lua/BOS code is GPL v2 in compliance with Spring's official viewpoint.
All artistic assets (3d models, textures) are CC-BY-NC 3.0 unless otherwise noted.
If those licenses somehow prevent you from doing something cool with S44, let us know.

Is the repo on sourceforge still valid aswell or is git now the only real repo?

The github repo is "the truth" :)
The Sourceforge repo will remain for historical reference (in case we end up wanting some of the stuff I didn't convert in the first batch), but no new commits will go there.
Part of this is because I've become a picky git user and I dislike using svn anymore, but mostly we're moving because git+github make it -much- easier for people to contribute to S44 - there's no need to find us on the forums or #s44 and discuss beforehand, just fork & pull request.
