Spring RTS Engine

Title: Probable errors in latest spring.exe (96.0) and/or SpringLobby:
Problem Description:
>> When running in single player mode (with BA and NOTA), the game loads and starts,
>> but no commander appears. Also, no bot appears (using cheats and globallos).
>> If XTA is used, a commander appears, but the system hangs on building the first unit.

>> 'Portable' mode is not 'portable': it tries to access other file locations

Xta 9.729 isn't compatible with spring 96, use 9.73 or higher. Latest XTA is 9.735 and can be found here:
http://springfiles.com/spring/games/xta-35

NOTA is still broken, but XTA and BA work.

Also, the "Portable" option is not portable, as it writes/reads from directories outside of the installation directory tree. If you prevent this extraneous access, the setup breaks.


Perhaps the latest NOTA has not been updated against the latest spring.exe and SpringLobby.

NOTA uses Spring 94.1 and it works well. Use lobby which is able to use multiple engines.

NOTA devs has no responsibility for things happening with springlobby. I suggest: dont use such problematic lobby. I heard it has some legal issues, too

The OP had two issues, the second was that "spring portable isn't actually portable"... which is what I think PepeAmpere was making reference to as spring.exe is supposed to be portable now.

If the issue is that it tries to access a dir(read/write), try this:

* create a springsettings.cfg file in same dir as spring.exe. In this file, put a variable like this: SpringData= <insert path to read/write dir>
* create a env.var called SPRING_DATADIR = <name of dir>

I wrote those from memory, var.names should be something like those. That should prevent spring from using mydocs as read/write dir.
