Wiki file upload

Currently the wiki allows upload only of image files. Is there any reason for this? (I mean there is a size limit, and spam can happen with anything anyhow).
I just created a page on advertisement in which I wanted to upload a file representing the GIMP source of a poster and could not do it (I linked it to my google drive, but I think the best would be to be on the wiki). There might be other people in the future wanting to add things like this.

because wikis are not file repositories. They are not places to host work.
they are places to post information. I think adding non-image files to the wiki is a bad idea. Can you not host on your own site or use a file hosting site?

Upload on files is for stuff that is integrated into pages. That basically leaves images.
Springfiles has "Media" and "Other" sections, imo put there.
Do not host on private ftp/server or filesharing sites like rapidshare, megaupload/pastebin etc. Thost tend to change url or disappear.
For wiki additional allowed files types could be: lua, svg
lua maybe for tutorials, svg for diagrams
Elaborate filenames and descriptions would be nice...too many screenshot114.jpg, logo.png, exampletexture.tga

Uploaded on springfiles.com and linked from wiki. I also think files should not be uploaded to "own sites", because those can disappear.
Maybe the above comments could be put in the "upload" page text, so that people know in the future what it is expected of them.
