[request] helper LOS-AI

I have a simple request to all you AI-makers out there. I'd like to see a helper AI that alerts the player whenever an enemy units comes into line of sight. That way you wouldn't have to keep your eye on the minimap at all times.
And of course, anyone who's willing to make such a thing gets a cookie.

Well if anyone used this, it could be called cheating... If anyone did make this, you would also have to make a way to alert people that someone is using this, purley because it could be called cheating. Otherwise it could be handy.

Maelstrom, what are you talking about? It would be as cheating as using a commander. If you were actually fighting a conflict, you'd recieve reports of enemy movements, and this would be the same thing.

well, if you were the only one using it, and the other people had no idea that you were using it, it could give you just a slight advantage. I mean, half the fun of the game is looking out for enemy's approaching. If you make that alot easier, it will give a huge advantage to the person using it. If you want to make it, fine go ahead, but some people would view it as a bit of a cheat.

Damn, only two posts and we're already off-topic.

But that's the whole point of having group-AIs: using them will allow you to focus your attention on other (more important) matters. As SJ once said, it'd be nice to take your mind of micro'ing, sit back, and only take tactical and strategical decisions. If these helper-AIs are avaible to everyone you really can't call it cheating.
To illustrate this point, you have to ask yourself if you'd consider enabling the metal-maker AI on metal makers cheating. If you use that particular AI, you don't have to disable the metal-makers if you run out of energy and you don't have to switch them back on again if you have an energy surplus. Everyone has the ability to use this AI, and no-one ever has complained about it as a possible cheat.
If you care to take this discussion further, please do so in a seperate thread. Because this one's for people who are actually interested in making the LOS-AI, and not for people who only complain about it :P.
So, is there anybody still up for making this LOS-AI?

I don't know about you, but I'd make it known before we started.
If I didn't, and I won, it would be because I cheated, if I didn't and lost, it would prove that I would have won if I'd been looking at the map. If I did, and they were aware of it, it would make them more cautious. It wouldn't matter if I won or lost, it would make the game more fun.

I'll do this for you. However, I will only do it if I can make ti blatantly obvious to everyone ingame that its being ran.
I'll set markers all allies can see, make a buffer zone with a list of all groupAI I have amde then write a GroupAI that monitors this and tells you whats running, and I'll make it send out mesages on startup.
I'll make my Anti-GroupAI GroupAI strike unwanted GrouPAI off of the list, then when another GrouPAI sees its name has been removed it'll close tiself down, thus onyl GrouPAI's everyone agrees to can be used.
Also I may be able to manage a dll that'll draw border lines showing where LOS and radar ends. I've got a lotta other stuff todo and I'm unsure how I'd go about doing ti correctly but I'll give it a try.

sweet. That LOS/Radar thing would be good. And that notification thing would be great, and it would fix any problems I can forsee.

Alantai: press L in game, it drawns the LOS borders and radar ranges.

But 'L' is ugly as, removes shadows, and just isnt fun. Having green circles (not filled in, just the border) would be alot easier on the eyes, and you could easily play with that enabled.

I know about L, but what i was more itnerested was the ncie neat white faint line I suggested be used ages ago in a thread about how LOS should eb seen, and I have the chance to implement it here.
I do ahev other priorities though so I'll get round to it eventually.
