fog gadget kills fps

fog, as seen on "hexfarm" map or with the gadget in blueprint, causes bad fps drop for me. When it is enabled fps are ~15, without fog it is 100.
When zoomed out there are line artefacts across the map:

and in zero-K, the commander-selection menu takes multi seconds to load the pictures. (see pic: game running since 4s but no pictures show yet, also bugged res bar) Not sure if that is caused by fog or simply by low fps.
