Multiplayer: We plan to make a robust multiplayer experience. One that supports Clans, Server Listings, Rankings, Stats, and Leader Boards. We also hope to one day allow persistent gameplay across servers but this is only possible with your support.
Single Player: In order to do a proper single player game you need good A.I and lore. We have extremely innovative ideas on improving A.I beyond what you have seen in traditional games, and good things take time to develop.
There is a single player possibility.

Looks mighty nice but seems a tad overly ambitious for a 4 person studio. I mean, its basically a mix of tribes, minecraft and halo, only with more features?

I pledged, more because I love crowdfunding than anything about the game itself (which does look pretty awesome). I also pledged for
Star Citizen and
Project Cars.
Would have given Planetary Annihilation everything I own but the funding window closed before I found out about it. I contacted UberEnt and they say they beta will be open to all so I can be happy with that.

I think much of their overhead is mitigated by their 'procedural' approach. Basically they program the game to make content and make it easy for users to make content instead of making it themselves.
It's a great approach, it worked for minecraft, and it looks like so far it is working great for this game.
It's on my 'to-do' list to take a closer look at this game but I haven't found the time to do it yet.

The only problem with procedural generation is a lack of content since the generation only produces filler, not the actual content. The content consists of the tools programmed into the procedural generator (e.g. the enemy types or the rules to generate those, the types of materials and items, ...). E.g. Terraria can produce infinite worlds but usually you only need one because the parts that matter are the crafting recipes, the enemies you face, the tasks you need to do to upgrade yourself, etc.

AFAIK they are porting it to Unity4 ATM. So what you see in the video is probably on unity3.
Also, FTFY

I care a super tiny amount when a huge AAA company that could easily do that chooses not to for DRM purposes. I do not care the slightest when an indie title chooses to go that way. Minecraft has basically spent the last year trying to make single player and symmetric multiplayer the same thing (because having to separate things for modding is a nightmare)

Toribash is great! for making utub videos. For casual play? idk i could not get past the, i expect, 5hrs of a wall of learning curve. Try Happy Wheels:

Is cortex command built on Liero or something?
