Spring RTS Engine

I noticed increased tension between members, either being without SJ has taken it's toll on us or we all need to get laid!

Flamewars are breaking out all over the place and increased tension is arrising...

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!

I've noticed it too between people, and a couple of them regularly. I sure won't name names though, I don't care so much for bringing it upon myself.

Seasonal Affective Disorder, Approaching Familly Holidays, ect... I wouldn't blame it on SJ leaving... I think everyone is just getting generally pissy...

I've noticed attitudes towards me are polarizing in a lot of people. Some people just seem to want to take the p*ss out of me, while some others have started praising me.

Eitherway my situation is getting more and more awkward as more and more posts are made each day and I find myself stretched for time, people doing things thinking that i wont take it seriously dont realize that unlike them I dont have time to sit back and enjoy things anymore like I used to.

That and the fact a large percentage of people have coursework deadlines coming up or exams. I know I have both.

Maybe if we do blame SJ we can guilt him into coming back?

Some people have been a bit insensitive and some have perhaps been over sensitive. Did anyone really mean to cause offense? Perhaps we should all remember that this forum is not moderated and it is just our self control is all that keeps us from flamewars and division.

A few things to consider while you count to 10 before responding to something that appears to be a personal attack.

They might not be serious, thinking you can take a joke.

They might have had bad day too, they'll probably apologise tomorrow when they feel better.

It is our trusted friends whose words can be the most painful.

And finally...

Never atribute to malice that which may be adequately explained by stupidity.

I know this may read as sentimental cliched bullshit, but its 99% true for most situations.

Generally just a byproduct of being opinionated (which everyone here is) and overactive - if you can say that you've read every single topic (worse, every single post) in any given thread, then getting laid isn't in it. Don't wanna complain / listen? Ignore the boards, and program / play the fun, free remake that drew most of us here in the first place. Develop other interests if you get bored: read a book, exercise, ask every single woman in a bar "Would you like to go to my place and have sex?" Statistics say that 1/10 will say "yes." Shy? Try the following advertisement: "Immature manbitch seeks femdom to rape him. Please call (enter your phone #)."

Funniest part is that people already know this, and don't care - the drama's what provides the emotional motivation to continue. Not very constructive, but humans suck. ~~

Yeah...i have noticed some flame wars and general hostility.

Ive noticed hostility. And thats saying alot. I miss every subtle hint that people dont like each other, and most of the time I even miss the blatant insults people are yelling. People realy need to calm down.

If someone has offended you, politley tell them how and why, and ask them to stop.
If you really do not like someone, tell them politley, and then just dont respond to any of their attacks.
If someone has said all your work sucks, and you should go away, try to see why they are saying this. If it is true that your work does suck, then try to improve it. If your work does not suck, they are being whiney little idiots, so you shouldnt listen to them.

Basically, be polite. If your polite, even a death thread can sound nice.

And to Atlanti and others about people stealing ideas and code, think about this. If your ideas and code is seen as good enough to steal, take it as a compliment. It is better than anything that person could do, so it must be pretty damn good. And to prevent that person from taking all the credit, POLITLEY post saying that this person might have stolen your code/idea. Also remeber that it could be a huge coincident, and you could have both made the same code/idea at the same time.

Everyone needs to calm down alot. Try not to see everything as a personal attack. Most of the time it would be a joke. If it is not a joke, ignore them. If they want to sink to the level of insulting you for no reason, then they are not even worth the effort it takes to think about them. Dont respond, as that will just encourage them. If you have to respond, again do it politley. If you come across as a well behaved person, and the insulter comes across as a raving idiot, then the community is most of the time going to ide with you.

Certainly the monthly topic rotation issue has formed a few gaps. But please people, it's a joke, have a little sense of humor.

Also cadyr has been a bit of a flamebait recently which hasn't helped things, it's just the way he is though, and I certianly don't feel any less respect for him when I have to slap him back in line. He's just being caydr.

I think it needs to be reiterated. Alot of the stuff going around this board is people posting art stuff they have worked on and what not, and we aren't all masters of constructive criticism, but at the same time if you ask people what they think of something, it isn't fair or realistic to think everyone is just going to go "Oh, thats great!" and not acctually speak thier mind. I know I personally don't hate anyone on these forums, and the people who I butt heads with are usually the people who I'm most willing to befriend later (<3 min3). I wouldn't tell you I think something could improve if I hated you or thought your work in general sucked, I'm usually telling you because I know you are capable of better. I know stuff I've said has pissed some people off, and that's why I'm saying right now that I'm sorry, and that really isn't the intent.

In all truth the flames att he mo are a nothing compared to the great can trees grow flamer war that broke out. Me Smoth and AF basically had an 8 page slogg out after a 1 page idea... with everyone else commenting from the side lines... In the end bans were thretend and stuff, so this is nothing...

Well, yea, there are lotsa diffrent opinoins, there are many diffrent sides, there are many flame wars.

for example:

Classic TA'er (trying to degrade spring to TA as much as posibole without thinkin of what fits spring)
VS
New spring player (Destroying every aspec of the game spring is based of)

Speller noob ( i dunt have time to spellcheck, lolz, its just a forum )
VS
Grammar nazi (ALL POSTS MUST BE 100% SPELLCHECKED OR HELL WILL BE UNLEASED!)

Idiots (Nah ah it's totaly diffrent. This is Necros and Farks that are totaly noob in xta, witch is totaly not good for XTA balance treadh lol)



Meh, nothing wrong with a litthe flame. Just learn to be humble. Hell, i've delted half A4's of posts when i thougt "hmm, pepole might flame me because of this and it's not really needed."
