The crash only seems to occur while joining a game already in progress as a spectator. Currently watching a game as spec that I joined before the game started and have had no problems so far. Will check later if being an active player is fine also.

looks like your gfx drivers caused the crash.

Why am I not surprised...there was a decent amount of time where Spring didn't work at all on my computer, which is why I didn't play for about a year. I pleased a few weeks ago to see that it was finally working again, but now sad again that it's a problem. Clearly, Spring needs to support ancient hardware better!

An addendum to my previous posts, it does seems to crash regardless of the game, it just crashes at different points. I crashed as a spec joining a game in progress, a spec from the beginning, and hosting a game of chickens by myself (and the chickens of course, who were saved from their fate by an untimely crash).

you could try to check, if it runs with the --safemode parameter.

it won't work, you can try to set UnitLodDist=999999999 in your settings
