They either 1. Do nothing or 2. are sound only when they really are movies. Lolz help plese?

get all the DivX and XviD codecs... DivX avis have the same audio encoding as some standard windows codecs (like wav or mp3) but their own special format for video compressing...
If I remember correctly
http://www.videolan.org/ VLC Media Player has built in codec for most formats.
