Immo is ok they go against piracy, the 7 workers of megaupload are now on jail, and i still think thats unfair, why they should be on jail if megaupload had free upload?? and free download? people want to upload stuff to save theyr stuff and now its all canceled, and they for me put the wrong people on jail because the problem is that people paid and upload things that they want.

I think if they canceled megaupload, in this month they will cancel all tracks, and the freeshare and free programs games videos music everything will disapear:( all p2p trackers torrents godamn... so all the old stuff deleted? if it was hard to find a video of a sport for esample, and if i want to watch an old f1 race i cannot, because FIA and FOM doesnt sell them so only could see thanks of those sites.....

lol damn to PIPA and SOPA if they want censure all internet, is ok 1 thing less to pay... i pay inertnet each month and cost money... if they censure whole downloadable stuff then theres no need for more internet. so then u have internet only for watch? and soon to watch u will need to pay or even for gaming...

SOPA and PIPA are not active. This wasn't related to that. This is the result of a 2 year investigation. Again, you can work the google... work the google.

Also, Senna: MU was shut down. It was not censored (which means "modified to remove certain content") or censured (which means "formally condemned").

Hosting copyright content which is uploaded by your users is one thing, but not acting against it or even going so far as to promote it to profit from copy-written works is a painstakingly obvious criminal activity. And if not that, wrong, at the very least.

Megaupload just didn't try hard enough to uphold the law. Pretty much every service which allows users to upload whatever they like hosts copyright content somewhere, it's just that professional companies will zap it on sight whereas greedy sites like Megaupload would just turn a blind eye to pump profits.

And no Senna, this case has nothing at all to do with SOPA or PIPA.

The charges involve MU staff uploading pirated content and the idea being out there that MU would pay for users to upload copyrighted content. The interesting thing is that apparently they complied with takedown requests because at the speed they where growing, takedown requests where a minimal issue.

the real problem was that they didnt complied with takedownrequests. The disabled links but kept the file.
Contentindustry loaded up some watermarked files, demanded deletion of the very same file, found them later still to be up and around, under diffrent links, therefor got Megaupload for not complying.

Also it helps if the leader of a evil conspiration is a german. Uploading you mr.Bond? No i dont expect you to upload, i expect you to del.

The real problem is that the current contentindustry has outlived there usefullness. We ve seen a lot of new modells poping up, who dont even have the piracy issue. Fanbased financing for films, based upon donations.
OS like Spring. I want piracy to finnish EA and all those other backward MegaCorps off, so we can have a fresh start.

The basic premises to "payPerMedium" is gone, the catdriges, the material good you buy, so the new line is to "payPerContribution", no longer for the final product, but per donation for the milestone done here and there.
Example: If i would donate enough for a programmer/artist/whatSoEver to work one month towards a milestone, why should i pay for the rest of the year for software? I allready donated the shit out of my wallet! The only thing i still want, is a donation modell that makes sure my money gets to the work i want to see it spend, and then i go free of prosecution because my behaviour-modell doesent fit into this captialistic world, were convincing flys that your shitheap is the best makes you king.
Now go, pair steam with a gnu, and couple the result with a "worknessescary-donation"system, which prosecutes non-donaters and oldfashioned contentcompanys alike, and ignores donaters inside, and ill live happily ever after.

to be fair, megaupload had as assload of files; you would need a small army to sort through and remove copyrighted stuff... so maybe its an issue with the way that upload sites are created and run; surely the sheer breadth of material would make it difficult to police

my main issue is with the extradition of the megaupload staff to the united states to be tried. it's bogus; if anything they should be tried by the ICC, and sadly this seems to be the trend these days. I'm not even sure if any of them are US citizens to begin with.

but really; remember when napster got taken out? everyone was like "oh my gawd piracy is over" and then within a month there were 5 competing services offering even more content than ever before. it's like using your last bullet to kill the zombie at the front of the line before you are devoured by the swarm.

also : this kimdotcom made 50 million last year, i doubt he'll take this sitting down; and in any case the US courts have a history of letting corporate leaders off scott free, so if precedent is anything to go by, even if he's found guilty he'll have to pay a fine (likely a paltry one like a drop in the bucket considering his fantastic wealth) and some community service

i just feel terrible for the legitimate users of the website (using it for online storage and distribution of their own work) and for the people who paid for a premium account. watch for a counter-sue against the government.

It isn't their fault that the megaupload owners were pulling this bullsiht and should see if they can sue them.

Part of the big-wall-of-text they have against them is about how Megaupload had a system to recognize when a file had already been uploaded, so that when two users upload the same file, then it's only stored once on their server, and how megaupload, while using this system to save on their disksapce, didn't use it when asked to remove a file: they only removed one link and not all the other links pointing to the same file.

Another part is about how employee of Megaupload sent each other email to share links to copyrighted material.
