Gosh, some of the maps in this game/vid does remind me of (some) spring maps.

2022? I don't think these maps are that much better than good spring maps.

Their engine obviously has more advanced lighting and bumpmapping so they look a bit better because of that.

I could be biased though.

the whole actual 3d map thing too, instead of a 2d + heightmap. Spring maps are good for what the game is based around, I guess things could always get better, but at a cost.

i don't see how it makes sense to compare spring maps with the ones of an FPS. like.. unit is walking through a tunnel, and the tunnel is more detailed... it is like comparing models of spring with those of an FPS, or comparing springs FPS with a dedicated FPS, or comparing the max number of concurrent units of spring with those in an FPS.

The yellow beach and water colour did remind me of some Spring maps.

That video is a newer one, they also published a few screenshots from earlier dev versions. Compare them and you see it's all postprocessing (tone mapping, HDR, ...), their maps look dull as most spring maps w/o that.
