New lead programmer

I start working for Paradox interactive from tuesday and dont expect to spend a lot of time on Spring after that (although I might still spend some time coding stuff that interest me personally). So there is need for someone else to step up and act as lead programmer, fixing found bugs, updating xta and generally coordinating the project. So if you think you could handle this please step forward (and no none of the other SYs or Betalord wanted this role).

I'd gladly help but I dunno about leading and co-ordinating...

Bah, the current Spring is already playable and nearly bug free.

Very impressive job so far SJ! It won't be easy, even impossible, to find such an efficient lead programmer.

This is unfortunate for the spring project but this is very fortunate for you SJ.

The programmer will have to be very skilled in C++ so someone like Zaphod, AF and the likes will be needed.

How long will you be gone for?

Agreed. It's clearly your fault we are losing SJ, you jerk.

Good luck at that place that pays you for your mad skills SJ, I really couldn't even guess who would be able to step up and fill your shoes though.

Its not my fault exactly, but without my awesomeness to encourage him he clearly got bored and desided to get a real job.

OH, lucky SJ. All my congratulation.

I would like to speak a little about the future. I think the developement will become steady for some time.
So perhpas a new version with the new model format could be usefull?
Or it's perhaps a good time to make heavy change from the Linux guy?
...any idea?

Ah this just sux! Congrats SJ! Goodluck with your new job etc. It's a webdesigning company, right?

He, perhaps you could stay for a little while, guiding someone else in this project. Ah well, maybe it's better if there comes a more clear team who decides stuff etc, instead of just 1 leader.. And are there any options in some other open projects, people we can ask to join in?

Just my 2 cents ;)

I can maintain the sourceforge repository, and I didn't intend to stop working with spring yet, so I'll be trying to improve spring anyway. I'm quite aware of how the engine works already, although there are certain parts that I haven't really checked out yet. The recent ideas of dj_oldfield are a good thing to consider working on in the future, as well as the linux merge, and the millions of things on the wishlist threads ;)
I still have to discuss that with dj_oldfield though.

However since this is really starting to be an open community project, I feel all decisions have to be made with the other developers as well, so in that sense: "Lead developer" sounds like someone making a lot of decisions by himself, which would not be the case.

What I can't do is updating XTA. I don't think a good enough player for this. Besides that, I like AA too much :)

Once the linux port is working enough to be merged, I'm hoping we get a few active developers with it (Chris Han for example). In that case spring development wouldn't slow down too much I guess.

And good luck with paradox SJ
