If you are receiving big value through the use of a valuable open source project, remember that contributing back to the community is the most responsible step you can take to help ensure that your community and open source project continue to thrive and succeed.

Thank you for the thank you and for your work as well
However, am I the only one who feels a little strange for being thanked because I spend a lot of time on my hobby (Though, I'm not sure if an all-consuming purpose can be considered a hobby anymore, but that's besides the point)?

People who do the right thing do not need thanks. Seems to me the author is preaching to the choir. Leaches don't read stuff like that.

I read it!
From the perspective of somebody who never contributes code per se, but has put time (and an insignificant amount of money) into less direct "devlopement" of OSS, it is quite refreshing to see the emphasis he placed on wholisitic developement, and the social factors affecting propogation of OSS, particularly in the commercial context.
I do agree tho, the article definitely has the air of preaching to the converted. That said, I think there is a lot to be said for the motivational impact of a bit of back-slapping self-congratulation every now and again.
