32x32 center sea map... needs compiling

I have an elevation and height map put together for a 32x32 map designed to look like natural terrain. It is a circular range of mountains gradually going to a large open sea filling the central third. The shoreline is quite corrugated, with six significant peninsulas.
I need help balancing the positions of the metal spots and making a good feature map. I want to add trees in a certain range of elevation and slope. I have a simple map that can be used for that.
If anyone is an expert at map compilation and balance, let me know and I'll send you the files to box up.
I've attached the (scaled down) height map for review. I'd add the texture map, but I can't open it to scale it down on this machine. Oh, and the feature map. I'd like to replace it with something that scales from 50% trees in the brightest parts all the way down to 0, and of course add some geos.
I can make very small changes, but anything larger than smoothing a cliffside would be very involved and may end up be the same as remaking the whole thing- the generator I've devised is an all-or-nothing thing.
