Space Map Experiments

So, I'm experimenting with making cool space maps... and there's a lot that works and a lot that doesn't work, this is what I've got so far...

http://benjie.animeotaku.ca/Asteroids1.jpg
http://benjie.animeotaku.ca/Asteroids2.jpg
http://benjie.animeotaku.ca/Asteroids3.jpg

Things arn't working out very good because of los/draw distance issues... also if anyone can make a pretty, but low poly 3do (or wings compatible) of an asteroid it might work better (the 1201 faces seem to comfuse stuff a bit)

I have one prob. The website with the aforemention images dosent connect or something... can you check to make sure its up, so i can see what it looks like?

I was correcting them while you were posting

Hurra! It looks...really....really...really....really AWSOME! But can i see it with some units and buildings, so we can se how it looks with those too.

yeah... I've run into problems acctually getting units in there :P... those asteroids? too small to build on...

ah! That is a problem...also how the heck did you do those pics? I mean, i din't know that TA Spring could support those types of terrain fetures and sutch. Is it like Homeworld, or like Orginial FF?

it's a water map with islands with features on the islands, then the water voided out.

I think I may have found a problem... "Asteroid1" is what I used as my 3do filename... and I think that it must have referenced something already in spring cause it looked nothing like the model I was using and wasn't changing when I resized the model

I got it to work... (havn't bothers with FF because the factories don't float/sink yet I don't think...)

As you can see, some units go on asteroids well and stick up over the top... metal extractors do not, if the mexes for FF were like this:
http://benjie.animeotaku.ca/AsteroidMiner.jpg
with the cool spinny bits (same as the ones for the normal mexes[I'm not a mnodeller, just an idea person] but pointing up and down and spinnging opposite directions) sticking out of the top and bottom of asteroids, it would look really cool

Yeahy, that's definitley the spring asteroid, cube intersecting octahedron...

Wait a minute... you mean like a hidden feature wich could someday in the future acctually constitute environmentals that is waiting in the code to be released?

I know where to get asteroid models, came across them during my mars making days

go here http://www.space-graphics.com/asteroid_kleopatra.htm

the site has 8 asteroids in lightware 6.5 format
the other models are under the asteroid imagery menu on the site

with these space maps you might want to run the TA War in Space units as they would look more at home than floating above the ocean last time I was testing them.

if you want them I got them

The asteroid models are in the XTA file because they were in OTA. I keep telling them they need to clean their mod up but they never listen :P

You should see some of the stuff Ive found with my FBI Editor.

There is a:
Sea Serpent
Implosion Device
Galactic Gate
Alien Beacon
Hydration Plant

And these are just whats in the units/*.fbi. This does not count any hidden 3do's, weapons, and stuff like that.

Those aren't hidden...

Did you ever play OTA?

Posted: 24 Oct 2005, 08:47
by Maelstrom
Well, I know that SOME of them arnt hidden, just not used in XTA, which was the point of your post. But, i didnt play that much OTA anyway. I knew of the Galactic Gate, but that is the only unit in there that I have ever seen in Spring. The other ones might be used in OTA, but I never completed the missions.

So, where are any of these (except the Galactic Gate) used in OTA then?

Wasn't the beacon part of that god-aweful attack/defence mission towards the end?

Galactic gate: Start/end of every new planet in OTA/CC campaigns
Hydration Plant: Desert Campaign in OTA or CC, can't remember.
Sea Serpant: CC campaign in Water World
Alien Beacon: CC in Lush world
Implosion Device: CC in Ice world, last world.
Scorpion: Guarding the Alien Beacon.

Arent you forgetting the models for the asteroid weapon used on some maps in OTA? Eitherway you cant palce untis as features in spring, only their corpses and other features.

Nice work though. For planets and other space models I suggest you look through the likes of HW2 and STArmada 2 mod sites.
