Spring RTS Engine

I wanted to try TA Spring, but I can't find the download. All I saw were downloads for the engine with no game, Gundam RTS Gundam, and Kernel Panic... but no TA Spring. Did I miss something?

There is no TA Spring. You may however be looking for the mod, Balanced Annihilation. Spring is an engine, not a game.

That should give you the engine.

You put game modules in the mods folder and maps in the map folder. You can download those at various sites. This is one of them; http://spring-portal.com/index.php/docman

There is no TA Spring.

There are however a multitude of Spring mods/games that reuse models, stats, gameplay, etc.. from Total Annihilation.

Anyway, Spring is the engine/framework for multiple games.
To play:
1) download the engine http://springrts.com/wiki/Download
2) go to http://springrts.com/wiki/Games
Scroll down to "TA-Derived" -> you probally want BA or XTA
3) go online and play

people sometimes call it "TA Spring" because thats how it started and because they are stupid.

Technically, Spring started with XTA.

XTA was the Swedish Yankspankers favorite TA mod even before they made Spring. (check http://www.clan-sy.com ). So when they first released Spring, it came with XTA instead of TA. In fact there never was a clean port of TA to Spring, and there will never be because:
- Everybody who starts with the intent of making a mod that is just like good old TA can't help but incorporate his own idea of what should be "fixed" and "improved" and "properly balanced".
- Crucial part of TA gameplay relied on bugs and glitches which are "fixed" in Spring. For exemple, line bombing, pelican immunity to missile when on water, hawk dancing. It would require lots of work and knownledge to replicate that in Spring, if it is even possible.

The engine was called TASpring in the past, and got renamed to Spring a few years ago. TASpring never was/contained a game though.
These videos are thus all misleading with their title; not just now, but already when they were new.

also remember u can right click on the host on games list in the lobby and simply download map/game

All the lobby clients allow for quick and easy package fetching of the games of your choice if you're planning on joining existing multiplayer games.

Obviously you need to DL the mods yourself if you wish to host or play offline, but otherwise the minimal installer will do you just fine.
