Gear Model

Hello All,
A while back I was attempting to create a Heavy Gear-like mod for Spring. Unfortunately work has gotten the better of me and it never fell through. Anyway, I created a basic "gear" model from scratch, with very simple editing it shouldn't be very hard to create a wide range of units (most "gears" from the 90's games were just variations on a single model).
The attached model is public domain. If you wish to use it in a game, you can get a hold of me and I'll help create additional content. I'm good at modelling but despise texturing and animating. There is a source *.wings file along with an *.OBJ.
Have fun! :)

Hi and welcome!
The gear.obj did not open for me and seems empty so I looked at the .wings file.
Quality wise the model looks good, style reminds me of Conflict Terra. (ie
http://code.google.com/p/conflictterra/ ... CombatMech)
These floating armor plate things should probally be attached to the body in some way.
Though I am not sure if there is a "market" for models without uvmap/texture/script, at least when I am browsing for free 3d models to use, I want those as well.
But good luck, just think about that even a most basic texture multiplies the chances of your models getting used.

size of .obj is 47B + contains only
Code: Select all
# Exported from Wings 3D 1.2
mtllib gear.mtl
= 47 Byte?

Strange, I exported it as OBJ. I'll texture it an re-upload.
Yeah stuff is floating about to keep the poly count down. It's also not really noticeable from above. The original TA models had all sorts of strange things about them but they're still cool.
I had a few more models but I lost them when I moved over to a new OS.

Bears some strong Armored Core similarities I feel.
I too did not try very hard connecting everything, although my concern was more for what I'd have to eventually texture.

shape looks good
model is facing towards x+, should face to z+
symetrical parts are not perfect mirrors

Here you are nagging again about symmetry!

I wish we had time to continue Damned, I used to love the modelling we did together <3

Here you go. I'm thinking of releasing a bunch of generic gear pieces so people can mix and match.
And yes, I should have mirrored instead of duplicating and rotating the pieces.
