When I went to an FO (forward observer) course in the Marines we called a certain fire mission a "shake and bake" which was a mixture of HE and White Phosphorus rounds, which was great for soft targets. It sure looked pretty from a distance....

The only thing I see from your links is the result of European imperialism in the present or past - either way it doesn't really matter because people live what they learn and fucked up things don't seize to have an impact after just a generation or two.

Europeans always want to issue a carte blanche for themselves by saying everyone on the planet is fucked up rather than admitting that they are the ones who fucked things up.

why Congo is like that just

since i can agree that european countries (mainly britain) did many, many bad things to african nation (and not only), they basicly moved africa out of stone age.

btw, if not european imperialism u wouldnt be where u are now x)

Thing is, is rape on the rise there? There are many possibilities

A: rape has always been this high but public interest has now allowed for higher levels of reporting wrt to individual counts?
B: the sample interviewed had a higher number of victims and the number is an extrapolation of the data from this select set?
C: was the sample chosen to get a desired result set?
D: were local women given an incentive to claim rape?
E: were the counted accounts actual individual accounts or hearsay accounts(I heard ogga booga in hut 5 gets raped all the time)?

Apply that to any journalism article. So few journalists report and so many tell a story.

Hm let's see..we have blood diamonds thanks to Europe for proliferating the myth of the rare piece of coal that used to be all over the ground in Africa. People there just saw it as shiny glas until Cecil Rhodes came there and came up with this great idea of a diamond cartel. What's next bottled water? Oh wait we already have that. Also expect genetic transhumanism after we are done putting a price tag on your genes.

Poverty and unemployment because western companies are out-competing Africans in their own markets, check.

Also the fact that countries who receive a lot of foreign aid actually develop worse than countries that don't.

Yeah, Europe cannot possibly still be the scapegoat. Africans are just untermenschen who cannot develop beyond stone age civilizations because they are so stupid.

Unfortunately colonialism hasn't ended. Even if officially the last colonial empires broke up after WW2, European, American and increasingly Asian private business interests still maintain a stranglehold monopoly on most of Africa's natural resources and sources of wealth. This was done mainly by "growing" the region's own domestic ruling class, buying their loyalty, and training their politicians and security forces in oppressing their populations the same way we used to. Case in point, in the Congo during the 1960s, even after the Belgians "officially left", ex-military who served there were hired by the new government to continue performing their duties there and train their new army.

The only difference between now and then is that colonialism has been privatized. For the average African not much has changed.

Imperial Colonialism != The Evils of Global Corporation

The two are not the same. One is a country looking to wield power to get one up over a rival, the other is a faceless international conglomerate doing what it can to profit ignoring its ethics.

The odd part is that those of you opposed are probably conducting the most hypocritical of all acts of support for these corporations by paying premiums for organic/ethical/fairtrade, or even worse, buying one product over another because they pay a little bit more. Using the profits of big corporation to cure the problem of big corporation, is a horrendous logical fallacy.

The nearest we have to Imperial Colonialism right now are Gaza and the Russian endeavours in Georgia. I'm sure there are many more, but they're conducted in a fundamentally different way, to completely different endpoints.

In this day and age corporations and countries are not really two things apart, they intermingle and form the tightly knit sphere of the ruling elite.

Private corporations slicing up third world countries is just one part of their tactics. After they have out-competed the local population you have the NGOs like IMF who go in and further ruin the poor country by placing them in perpetual debt.

When the debt cannot be repaid they then gradually adjust the agreement to become more beneficial to themselves, so they can exert their leverage to further the interests of their corporations.

The worst part is that in Africa they don't use the local population as workers but even bring in overseas people. Especially China does this, they bring in Chinese to work instead. This is all at the expense of the poor country.

The IMF are the chief enablers of the corporations because they use the leverage they have over indebted countries to lower duty and taxes on imports & exports for companies in their sphere of interest.
