Bryce* maps: strange red ground

Those maps:
http://springfiles.com/finder/1/bryce
ie
http://springfiles.com/spring/spring-maps/brycevalley-0
were broken (crashed on load) for a while until somebody uploaded fixed versions. (thanks for that!)

So now the maps load but the ground is some strange red and there are no shadows.
Whats up with that? I am sure that is not how the maps originally looked.

This ought to help:
http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=23426

...We need an FAQ for these kinds of things.
...Or the engine could catch it and give an error instead of giving us strawberry sorbet land.

We need an FAQ for these kinds of things.
No, people just need to check their infolog.txt when this happens (because inserting red tiles is the engine's way of catching the underlying problem, which has been getting logged there for a long time).

Well, I've fixed loading issue (I haven't checked documentation how to make maps - I simply tried to find and fix some syntax problems as I was informed by errors) and checked - everything seemed to work fine... then I decided to change the name to avoid confusion - I didn't know about links between files so I only checked if lobby provided updated info... never tried to play it again since then as I could not find any players willing so... neither I had time to wait for some. So 'till today I wasn't even aware of problem  Sorry for inconvenience.

I'll post updates on SF momentarily... actually anybody could do it as long as one has account on SF  Updated maps should be available at: Bryce_Arena, Bryce_Canyon and Bryce_Valley in few minutes.
Enjoy.

That's what happens when you rename the smt.

thanks for fixing.
still have no shadows though...
Tested with bryce valley, on other non-bryce-maps i have shadows.
Somebody can test this please?

imo the maps are pretty unique with the "large layout" that is broken up by all these small path things. Would be nice to have them working.

I don't know if this part has been covered but you can change the names of all the files except for the SMT... so your revised maps can have a different name and just use the old name for the tile file.

Ok so assuming that you've fixed the smt rename... no shadows may be because the y on sundir is set to 1 or more. The farther away the sun is vertically the less shadow that will be fast.

I never figured out how people made maps with spaces in their names. How do you use a DOS command-line oriented compiler and have it generate "Map Name.smt"?

This should be added to some sort of Wiki, warning people of the dangers of adding a space to your compiled map name.

You use quotes.

I guess it would also be possible with a mapinfo.lua
(http://springrts.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=26028)

So, anybody feels like fixing shadows?
If not, I might do it (some time) because the maps look suitable for those funny tanks.

I like how his question answered itself completely unwittingly :-)
