Image macros

I propose a new forum rule:
"Posting of image macros is not allowed, except in threads dedicated to them."
Reasoning:
Image macros usually express 'one-liners', i.e. jokes, most often with intent of ridiculing somebody's point of view/contribution to discussion.
As such they only degrade and derail threads with very little humorous or other value.

got complaints about the graphic nature of the image so made it into a link instead... it's actually pretty tame but *shrug* ~SinbadEV

A good image macro says more than a 1000 words!

I don't think I ever posted an image macro on these forums.
Only times I got banned was:
by Mr.D for 1 day for 'trolling' after I got his model topic unstickied, after which it was lifted as a mistake
by a mass 'troll' ban for 1 day after which it was explained to me that it was a mistake
1 week lobby ban for extensive exploiting of bugs/vote system on CA servers
Each happened over 2 years ago. No other bans happened. I don't understand where your need to attack me comes from.

As I mentioned, it's used to ridicule, not to progress discussion.

sounds like u try to negate fact u were banned by giving examples that u were banned. interesting.

Maybe more moderation of image macro posts and off-topic posts in general would be useful.

i couldnt agree more. everything OP said is true.
insta-ban for anyone who uses such macros. they are very childish and do not belong to civil discussions. the only place where they belong is a thread about those "funny" pics.

+1. It'd be nice not to run into giant flashy images in non-offtopic forums - I agree that they pretty much do nothing for discussion. Offtopic seems like a great place for such things? less so dev/general forums.

u mad, coz...? did i steal ur bike? nope... i didnt do it.
sorry to ruin your fun, but... image macros never piss me off, just makes me laugh at you, or just feel bad for you, or feel superior to you and look down at you like you were a little baby. (or whoever else who uses them).
so if you want to make me feel better, then keep doing it.
(hihi, now youre confused and dont know what to do anymore! brainfuck.)

I support the ban of image macros, except when they're specially crafted Spring screenshots with captions.
Also, can we restore the ban on animated avatar?
