WhatÔÇÖs so bad about this?
The most immediate problem is that this data is stored in an easily-readable form on your machine. Any other program you run or user with access to your machine can look through it.

The more fundamental problem is that Apple are collecting this information at all. Cell-phone providers collect similar data almost inevitably as part of their operations, but itÔÇÖs kept behind their firewall. It normally requires a court order to gain access to it, whereas this is available to anyone who can get their hands on your phone or computer.

By passively logging your location without your permission, Apple have made it possible for anyone from a jealous spouse to a private investigator to get a detailed picture of your movements.

I'll agree on the "shit you don't need" part, and smartphone plans are, in general a rip-off... but Apple has actually done a damned good job on the price-point of their handheld offerings. Comparing the price and featureset to the competition, the Apple handhelds are actually damned good.

That said, I mostly shop for non-phone devices, where the pricing gap is far more apparent since Apple obviously subsidizes the price of their iPod and iPad devices through their App Store platform.

back to the OP, i was just reading an article about this, and it's pretty messed up that apple would have this massive security flaw in their product

saving your movements in an un-encrypted form; how easy would it be to release some warez purporting to be one thing but is actually a trojan horse? probably astonishingly easy, knowing the depth of skills that haxors seem to have these days

just another reason i would never buy an iphone; but then again, this is far more outrageous and substantial than any argument against one i've seen before

i give it about 2-3 more years until "safety thru obscurity" becomes a thing of the past for apple users as more and more stupid people buy their overpriced and poorly secured products

If facebook taught us anything, it's that the general public doesn't value privacy much. Broadcasting every place iphone users have ever been could marketed as an amazingly cool feature! It takes grumpy nerds to call that a security flaw.

When you buy a real camera you pay for the high quality lenses, which could not possibly fit in an iPhone. Megapixel is mostly a marketing gimmick, and too much of it can actually have a negative effect on image quality.

Iphone and att are shit.

Sprint + Evo4G = love.

Also, Att 3g speeds are lolz. Sprint 4g will hit 7mb easily and consistently. Plus sprint has coverage EVERYWHERE. Sprint 3g speeds top out at around 1 - 1.5 mb which is max for the standard, moreover, that speed stays constant without fluctuating.

Also, I can use my evo4g anywhere in the us, canada and mexico, on anyone's network and it doesn't cost me a damn thing no matter how much I use it (the only stipulation is that over the course of the last 6 months, your roaming usage cannot exceed your "In Network" usage, and even if it does, all they do is call and bitch at you about it).

Android spanks the crap out of iOShit.
