There is an IRC-lobby bridge, iirc. So if you have a generic web-based IRC client, it could be installed onto the Spring website hooking into the lobby.

It's just an HTTP IRC Chat via the browser, not exactly a miraculous discovery. There's probably dozens if you just Google.

As Smoth said, forums with chatrooms or chatboxes are just stupid. Those are the kind of forums where post counts are displayed in big bold lettering for everybody to see, so kids who make getting the highest post count their top priority, can slap each other in the face with their gigantic e-willys.

I used mibbit for a while. It worked alright, had some weird case sensitive problems with doing pm's. Other than that,
it was convenient.

we make a new sub-forum-group called "chat" with sub-forums with names like room names (like "off-topic" "balanced annihilation" "find people to play with") or whatever... and THEN we use the options in phpbb3 to exclude those forums from the "view new posts" view and "auto prune" or whatever so that they don't end up causing the forums to collapse into a singularity.
