Intelligence Squared Debate

The topic of religion in forums is always a dodgy area, so if you could all be mature and stay on the topic of "Is the catholic church a force for good in the world?", we can enjoy this debate.

I watched this debate between Archbishop John Onaiyekan, Ann Widdencombe, Christopher Hitchens and Stephen Fry, and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. Here's the first video in the debate.

If you don't have the time to watch, but wanted to know how the debate turned out, the results can be viewed at 7:55 of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7hN75lw ... re=related

Personally I feel the Nigerian priest diverted off topic numerous times and pointedly refused to address any questions or make any rebuttals.
Ann's arguments were good but I'd have liked to hear more solid statistics, rather than "we help here and we help there. we help loads of people! absolutely loads!"
Christopher, as always, got straight to the point, making inspirational arguments, and, for once, didn't interrupt his opposition :P
Stephen makes the best quip in his final speech at 3:20 of the 2nd video, really made me laugh.

Already saw the video about a year ago, old debate is old, and the Spring Forums is not the place for it. Seriously, if you want a proper debate, you'd probably be better off with /b/ than here.

Why are these types of discussions allowed? Nothing good ever comes of them, just trolls trolling trolls.

+1 delete thread.
