I made this guy for a creativity project for school. It was fun. It doesn't have all the things I want. I ran out of time, but this is what I did get. Here's the video I turned in with the project.

It might be fun to finish him with walking animations, corpses, and sounds. Then add some barbarians with axes and throwing axes.

gah! import 3ds into upspring so that you only have to do one import instead of a whole bunch!

Nicely done :-)

I'll will be sure to do 3ds next time.

I don't know the normals discussion.

Thanks for liking it everyone.

The project got 190/200 and it was a third of my grade.

I am going to say it again and keep saying it until you knuckle draggers get this.

3ds is a bad choice for import format.

3ds cannot have more than 1 uvmap coord per vert

so

3ds models unwield geometry at these vertices

this fucks up your normals.

+1 to obj

Epic fail discussion about this here

tl;dr: obj import for piece per group never was added. It's still better than relying on imprecise 'recalc normals 3do style'.
