I tried to get descent 1 from an abandonware site, but for some reason the point of view keeps moving up and down

But I played it a lot a while ago.

It was almost the first computer game I ever played.

That's weird how you write... You write very stale and don't give you personal opinoin. Plus, you mention the maker of the game... very weird Zangarath...

or should i say BOT???

Why would a bot have that much info in thier profile?

I've always loved the descent series (tricording FTW!). Could never get a hold of anything but the demo of descent 3 though.
Oh, and Kixxe

I really really liked the first descent. I played the demo of it, I made sure to be bought the full game, I played it passionately for very long, learned all levels by heart, (I mean it, even now I can currently still see in my head all levels, even secret ones. Save the third secret level that I have only remembered fragments of.), I could pull complex manoeuver on all axis at once naturally, I knew all cheats, I played lots of third party levels, and I even made a fair amount of level. Well, I never relesed any level, and I kept hitting the max number of door, or of cubes, before managing to make any complete level, but the level bits I made were impressive (ok, only me ever saw them, but trust me, they were. Like a level made only with octognal and dodecagonal tunnels, or a level shaped into a Star Destroyer floating in black space, complete with fighter bay and stuff that fire from the side, or that level with twirling tunnel in 4D, and lots of carefully modelled and textured and shaded room. All that despite Devil nasty way of corrupting levels during save and the pseudo virus that infected my savegame.

I also played the demo of descent 2, but at the time my 486 wasn't powerful enough to play it with a decent FPS, and when years later I got ahold of it my PC had become too recent and couldn't play descent 2 well either. Apparently Descent 1 & 2 use the frame count and not the clock for its timing, so under fast PC the ship wobble up and down very fast, turn very slow, enemy are super-fast, etc... Plus Descent 2 textures are all wrong on my PC. Some times ago I saw there's some third party exe to run Descent 1 on newer PC. Anyway, maybe some days I'll try harder to make Descent 2 work.

As for Descent 3, I warezed it, but didn't like it at all. The turning was either too fast or too slow, the textures and levels were ugly, I stopped after a couple levels.

Oh, and I blame Descent for rendering me totally unable to play any game that doesn't have a "invert y-axis" tickeable box.

I wish there were more descent clones out there.

It was disappointing

Descent 3 overcomplicated an already complicated gameplay model. Personally, even though it was a tacky "heavy-metalish" Acclaim title, I always preferred Forsaken to Descent 3. Radix was another fun, solid Descent clone, but Radix you couldn't bank - it ended up playing/looking like Duke Nukem with a jetpack.

Personally, I'd like to see a Descent title focussed on multiplayer gaming... sort of a "descent tournament".

3 was kina muffed... alot of the features that were supposed to be there werent, and yet they were all hyped about so the game was kinda a dissapointment. Other than that it was preety decent.

Descent 2 was the best though, it was kinda like Descent 1 improved. Awesome game.. actualy i never played D1 for any measurable amount, mainly just D2...

I just found http://www.descent2.de/d2x.html

And now I can play Descent2 fine on my new PC!!!

However, one way doors + single use switches + save disabled in secret levels makes for very unfair levels!
