The Coldest Winter

Hello! i think its time to post my own project, comments, help, ideas are welcome!

War has always been part of humanity, but the third world war has reached the limits of what war can do. Earth has been devastated, but not like how most expected. As nuclear weapons destroy the world, nations have been torn apart. But the last event has changed the world into a oceanic planet.

At the very night of December 11th, many countries disappeared under a merciless flood, nobody knows how, or why this happened, but the world as it is now, is a huge ocean with little pieces of land left, where survivors have formed small enclaves to survive.

Many knowledge is lost but important technologies were still recovered, as humanity begins to build itself again, the enclaves have formed new nations, different enclaves joining the other depending on their location, communication and their view of the world right now.

Humanity has learned to live and prosper on the waters, every remaining piece of land is like gold, very valuable for the now 4 newly formed nations around the new oceanic world. These nations each have a different view of the world, each with their own territories, diplomatic missions, trades and technologies.

As the world is never safe, the nations are building their navies with the current knowledge of ships and guns. A lot of war technologies have been lost or forgotten, while new ones have been invented, war will be like nothing ever seen.

Factions

There will be 5 factions, 4 of them are known for now.

New Terra : Mostly what is left on the western part of the world, have formed New Terra, a nationalistic faction that believes the world can become as it was before, a proud and reasonably large force in the new world, with a decent designed navy of pride and honor.

The Lost Empire : The large empire located on what was used to be Europe, they barely have any land but with superior technology they live on the sea. They believe in their ancient empire that has brought them here, protected them from the flood, which they now wish to rebuild.

Not much is known about their military power, but it is rumored that they live near the origin of the flood that has devastated the world, furthermore their navy consists of large groups of ships, only single ships are send out for recon and exploration missions.

Drunken Fist : It is not known where they come from, but the Drunken Fist is a group of nomads around the world, they do not believe in a certain way of restoring or bringing the world to something, a bit pirate-ish behaviour, they just roam around and see what they can do in the new world for themselves and others.
Image

Wrath of The Sun : The most unknown nation in the new world, the remnants of what used to be the east of the world, not much is known about them, neither about what they do, what they know and what they have. They do however, have won almost every single battle they fought with their fleets.

Each faction has it's own designs and technology, each navy has its strong and weak points to cover.

Current progress : Building the Lost Empire navy.

Looks pretty cool!
I assume most buildings will be subaquatic or floating?

An oceanic planet? Wouldn't that be warmer, not colder?

Have you talked to Von Graatz before? He was making a similar mod redone from the water mod he made for TA.

I like the idea. You should invest more models for underwater design.
There once was a crappy show called seaquest, that was basically startrek undwater. Anyways the plot premise was that the land was being polluted and there were lots of technology developments underwater, so there was all this sub tech crap. Also there was a starcraft game based under water, call submarine titans, and was kind of an interesting concept. Things like submarine fighters (underwater ships like fighter jets) and submarine carriers, etc. However, with all of this underwater crap, you are kind of limited with Springs depth and camera control.

With large ships like that, it would be nice to use a dynamic unit to corpse system, so when a battle ship died, its turrets wouldn't be magically pointed else where, and maybe you could have things like ships rolling over and sinking or split in half?

I must say, those idea's sound like such awesome, i can barely contain my enthusiasm!

Google wrote:Project Hosting is currently READ-ONLY for network maintenance.
They do this on Wednesdays sometimes. Should be up and running tomorrow.

(It's a camera widget.)

Now make a depth control and crush depth gadget widget system.

This is how the New Terra navy will look like!

That is their heavy cruiser! while light cruisers are also kinda near the same size, heavy cruisers are more like task leaders for small groups, light cruisers are more support vessels.

The old destroyer model will be updated later on.

you might want to think up something for the textures so that ships do not look all grey with team color stripes :)

smoth wrote:your models look great but I would feel remiss if I did not ask about the texture. Is the texture just you working out your colors or is it an area you are weak in?
MElvinVM wrote:My texturing skills are not the best and none of them are actually complete, but for now i have textured some basic things and put color schemes on the ships, as my game project will have different races, with each race having a totally different kind of ships, weapons and gameplay, which colors would help making the ships look different.

But i am planning to add smaller details in the future, but I have yet to learn how to do all that! :)

But i also don't like too much detail on a ship, ships with a lot of little doodads and such are actually fragile in design.

I would also like to say that I do not like the TA style textures, they look more like random gradients to me.

They're small patches used across regions of various size and shape. I'm not terribly fond of them myself but the more low poly texturing I've done, the more I've grown to respect them technically if not artistically.
