performanceproblems with top PC :(

Hi
is it normal, that if u build ca 500 Units with 2 Players and let them fight, that a 3 Ghz PC with 1 Gig Ram and Radeon 9800pro is slowing down so much that its like Speed 0.5 from originally 1.5?
I decreased the details (no shadows and so on) and reduced all other performanceoptions to 1/3.
Wtf! That really suckes because i normally play with ca 1k Units.

yeah i know 500+ units slows me down even in single player, but thats my card (fx 5200 X,X) soon to be replaced

(i have a 1GiG RAM + 3GHz PC as well :s)

isn't the 9800 pro the crummy version of the the 9800 with the cache stripped out or something?

No, Pros are the good ones. SEs are the crappy ones, however, the SEs can be software-upgraded to Pros if you know how, since the hardware isn't lacking but just disabled.

Okay, back on topic
Yes, it will lag. Its a limitation of the engine, and short of rewriting some very large and important chunks of it, there's not much that can be done

hey it was just a question!
on topic: lowering the view radius REALLY helps me (end/home) i have it around 40-45 now and have 0 problems (although in FPS view sometimes u can't see the edge of big maps)

9800 > 5200
reason ? 9800 is REAL DX9 card while 5200 is "fake" DX9 (all it can handle on playable FPS is DX8/8.1) ...
9800 beats 5200 anytime ... so thats not problem ...

Gforce 4 > FXseries...
Nothing in the FXseries even comes close to touching the preformance figures of the 9800 cards.
I like how you consider a 3.0 pentium 4 with a 9800 and a gig of ram a top of the line system. That's easily half as powerful as some of the systems out there.

Yeah, the FX series were a big FUBAR on behalf of Nvidia, nice to see they are back on track with their 6000 and 7000's though.

Nah. 9800 are dated technology. The Xx00 series preform better for about the same cost. Also there are lots of socket 939 AMD cards that outpreform your average pentium 4 for a good chunk under the cost. And PCIe motherboards cost the same ammout standard AGP boards cost these days, so you can easily have that for a much better price. Plus he hasn't even mentioned his HDD system, so most likely he's sitting on IDE's where you could have a SATA system in RAID 0 for about the same price as a couple of IDE's that will preform quite a bit nicer. A gig of ram I think should be considered standard in a gaming machine you can go quite a bit higher but it isn't really needed. That being said, when I rebuild the box I'm on right now I'm going to be building it with 2 gig.

Hey, you use that box between your legs for gaming. You should learn more about it, it gives you pure pleasure!
