Newbie question for making TA run on Ubuntu 10.04
Posted: 03 Oct 2010, 16:04
Hi there,
I used to play the original TA for a long, long time and also installed some of the earlier graphics enhancement mods available at that time, but dropped out of hobby for a while. Recently I installed ubuntu on my laptop and found spring in the gaming section of Ubuntu's software center. I was instantly thrilled and keen on playing TA again.
After several hous of experimenting my first enthusiasm was put to an end, though: The spring lobby is up and running, but despite browsing the forums here, i still don't grasp where to put the gaming files and how to make them run.
Please help a newbie on the following topics:
- where to put mod files on my Ubuntu 10.04 installation: /usr/games includes the spring lobby, setting file etc, but no sub directory to place mod and map files into.
- Which original TA files are needed for Balanced Annihilation? In one sub thread someone posted a link for a (windows?) installer, but apart from that i didn't find any clue on installing and running BA!
Are newbies not welcome to TA-mods?
Sorry for my heated posting, but I'd expect some more detailed how-to-information for running this software. The lobby looks REALLY promising and I know what to expect from TA. I am all the more frustrated that there is no clue on how to put all these pieces together to make TA run on Linux.
Thank you all in advance for (your patience and) helping information.
Kr,
