I have a brilliant idea for a mod. Ok, mabey not brilliant, but at least fun.

Pirates!

It would be a mostly water based mod, with custom maps to suit. Pirate ships, cannons, cutlases and parrots. Think Monkey Island. But bigger.

My Ideas:
Start off with the Captain. Basically the Commander. Has a huge sword that kills lots of pirates.
Buildings would be:
A tavern for 'Hiring' the pirates
A dock to build the ships.
A Lookout tower for radar?
Barrels as mines, as well as floating ones of course.


Pirate infantry would be:
Worker - Makes the docks, taverns, lookout towers, and other buildings.
Pirate - Basic unit. Sword. Eyepatch. Pegleg.
Cutthroat - Steath unit.
Mobile Cannon - Cannon pushed by a few pirates.
Parrot - Simple scout unit.
Musketeer - Pirate with a musket. Shoots stuff.

Ships:
Dingy - Cant attack. Pretty fast, but weak. Used for scouting missions.
Small Boat - Fast, one or two cannons. Can carry 5 pirates.
Medium Boat - Slower, more cannons, more pirates.
Large Boat - Slower again, even more cannons, can carry lots of pirates.
Cargo Ship - Carry's tonnes of pirates, but goes slower the more units you have. Cannot attack.
Mabey some other boats to go in between

This will require some small engine modifications, but would be a very good step: Customizable resource names.
So I would replace Metal with food, and energy with wood.
'Food' would be 'Grown' from fertile soil (metal patches).
'Wood' would be chopped down from trees (features), or grown in a greenhouse.

You would fight by loading your pirates onto a ship, and sailing to the other base. Fight the other boats with some empty boats, then move in and unload the pirate filled boats.

Maps would have to be custom made for the mod, with lots of palm tree's for the genuine carribean feel. Would be basicly metal maps with an ocean. Would not be possible for a land attack, as this is not what the game is about. The land would have to be islands only.


Another way of doing it would be the Navy vs the Pirates, instead of Piurates vs Pirates, but I want to see the pirates sailing the seven seas first.

Aww, my idea was stolen before I even made it!

Sucks.

Ah well, I will use it for modelling/scripting practise. Or mabey I will wait untill the new model format before going to far, as I really dont like texturing in 3Do Builder. It is just not any fun...

Ah well, did that mod actually go anywhere? Havnt heard anything about it before now, but then again, I didnt play TA for quite a while...

Want to help then? I will need all the help I can get. But first, I need to learn how to script. Which tutorials do you people recommend? Or should I just wait for the new model/scripting format that is in the works?

You gave me of an idea for farther down the road of Brick Wars (LEGO Spring). But you won't find out what it is till I use it on you. :lol:

:lol: i would help but i'm beyond uselesss with scripting modeling skinning etc only thing i'm even remotely useful for is testing and research

and I'm going to build a Sovetskii Soyuz (Btech Clan Heavy Cruiser) and bombard you all into char and slag

Instead of just pirates, could it be like pirates and colonial Brits and Spaniards and stuff of the same era?

I thought about making a pirate mod once; but it just wouldn't work, because the coolest thing about pirates are having battles where two ships swing together and have a raging battle as one boards the other. You just couldn't do that in TA/Spring...

yeh well i'm going to make the super dooper evil battle cruiser with wings that goes underwater and has hookers and blackjack......... forget the cruiser....
