Hi,

Im trying to use the Spring Lobby but when i open it i get a Log Warning saying :

Couldnt create folder.
Be sure there isnt a write protection.
Log function is disabled until restart SpringLobby.

Just to be sure, Im assuming this is the Spring folder in my Program Files that needs to be unprotected

Actually i think the problem was that i had the game installed in the Program Files folder and im using Windows 7. Ive reinstalled it elsewhere but im getting a different error. Im on the college network for now so it could be that, that is blocking it (though i doubt it really).

When i try to get the latest spring lobby update via the spring updater the program just closes down. Another window blinks up for a second before it shuts down but its far too fast to see anything it says.

Ill know for sure when i go home and try it there.

I also cant seem to open the SpringDownloader either. Just doesnt do anything when i click on it.

Is your document's folder on a network drive?

No. Its just in Libraries/Documents.
Im at home now aswell so it isnt a problem with the college network.

I cant seem to connect to the servers. Is there anyway of dubugging the problem, some tool or something?

I get a window popping up saying:
"Couldnt establish connection with the server.
What would you like to do?

Try Reconnecting Try Next Server Do Nothing

Then in the chat section i get:
[16:14:23] ** Server ** Connecting to server Official server...
[16:14:23] ** Server ** disconnected from server: Official server
[16:14:23] ** Server ** Chat closed.

Ive made a nickname and registered.

I get this too, used to get logs, don't anymore. Just ignored it to be honest. BrainDamage didn't seem to know what it was about with the limited info I gave him, although he was more asleep than awake at the time.

So how do you play the games without the Spring Lobby? To play Evolution with an AI opponent you need it.

the chat logging function doesn't prevent you from playing any game, it simply won't log chat to disk
for being unable to connect, try again? yesterday there were some widespread dns resolution issues, see if today works.
also make sure you added a firewall rule to allow the lobby to connect to the internet

to get me more infos, please run this command to launch the lobby
open a dos console, cd to the lobby dir, then do
springlobby.exe -cl -l=5 > %appdata%\lobbylog.txt

then open app data directory (c:\users\username\ app data in vista/win7 ), and give me that log

Hey, sorry bout the delay.
First im assuming you just mean cd to the Spring dir and not the lobby dir inside the Spring dir, since theres nothing in there except some chatlogs that just say connection couldnt be established.

Second, So i ran the command and the lobbylog.txt file gets created. I tried updating the lobby and it just shut down. The lobbylog was empty after. Next i ran the command again. When the lobby starts up i tell it not to update then i go to Server->Connect enter my username and password then wait while it tries to connect. It comes up saying it cant then to Try Reconnecting, Try Next Server or Do Nothing. I choose Do Nothing. But lobbylog.txt is still empty.

Right the problem might be my anti virus software. Im using Comodo. If anyones used this and had similar problems could you let me know. Ive asked a question on their website forum so i hope this is the problem. Im pretty confident it is, as it would explain problems ive had with other software

The users group full control of the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Spring" folder. It took care of that problem for me.

there's a register tab, use that instead of the login tab

Yeah ive done that but in the log i posted above i get

16:04:00: runtime assertion ( /home/buildbot/slaves/springlobby/release/build/src/userlist.cpp:31 ): UserList::GetUser("conormdowney"): no such user

So the nickname doesnt seem to be registering.
