Hmm I need help

Well I just downloaded TA:Spring a couple of days ago and heres my problem:
When I fire up spring.exe I choose to be a server I know I'm supposed to do that, I also know that there isn't supposed to be a single player mode but a few scripts to see what TA:Spring can do, the problem is they dont work.
For example, when I fire up the random enemies script (Its supposed to send out random enemies in all derections to attack me) nothing happens. My commander never appears, nor do any random enemies, nothing. This happens with every test script. Even when I'm online it will just hang and do nothing, everybody leaves of course. I know I can run Spring because I can join up games and play them when there made by other people. It just dosn't work when I am a server. It seems like it dosn't want me to be a server... even when I'm not online. At first I would just fly around like its an FPAirplane sim or somthing and admire the awesome terrain, but now thats gotten boring so I want to be able to actually run the scripts, any help?
:(

Computer specs:
2.97 Gig CPU
512 MB RAM
128 MB Video Card (Ati)
56k Dial-up Modem (You would think this would be the problem but remember, the scripts dont work even when I'm off the internet)

PS: Not a really urgent question but I heard that you can put 3rd party units from TA into spring, can the .ufo file go into springs folder directly or does it need to be a different format?

What OS? I remember reports a while back that units wouldn't spawn in Windows 98, but by those specs it seems like you'd be running something far more up to date...

And about the units... well, if they're simple enough, they'd probably work without a hitch. Spring uses different formats for textures and has other little quirks that have to be adjusted for most of the time, so there probably isn't a lot that will work straight off without any hassle. For installing them, yeah, I think you just drop them in the Spring root folder for now. I don't remember whether or not they finished the "plug-in" mode for modinfo files or not.

Yay a short simple answer. :-) Thank you, I do use 98 but I'm getting XP very soon. I was afraid I would have to do this long complicating hacking process to fix it. Odd though, I can still play it when other people host the game...

If upgrading is too much for anyone else out there on 98/ME, you can always get a linux distro and a copy of wine and play spring that way, though there's no sound unless you buy WineX

No one should be using 98 anymore. Its a total crapload, trust me I know.
Anyway since this seems to be my noob questions thread, I got another one, out of curiosity.
Where did the Sy's get the name "Spring"? I mean, Its not a very common name for a complete blow everything up robotic war game. I would like to know how they came up with this name for their project.

Spring the season - rebirth etc.
Spring the bouncing thing - old versions.
Spring the swedish word - run. (I forgot why this was valid but he did give a reason)

In my humble opinion, Spring is the rebirth of quality gaming =P

Also, you said you have a 56k? It ain't a problem, not for me anyway. Have fun in your online gaming.

SJ's inspiration for spring the first version was that webgame thign where you make lifeforms by making lines and animating them using the wierd thign at the side. He thought he could amke them battle against eachother. Thus to keep inline with the theme he devised the name spring, as in jump forward, not spring-time season..

In time the engine grew and grew till it reached what is shown as old old old spring in the downlaod page and it continued all the way till it reached current day.

Isnt there a charity fund for the 3rd world computer users? (windows 9x, and people who use pre-x86 computers like those amstrad computers with the 3.5# floppy disks that store 512k with 600k internal memory and come with the 'logo' diskette, or those BBC mastercomputers that look like burnt out microwave ovens)

Sorry If i'm not supposed to do htis but I'm reborning this topic after a week. I would have posted sooner but all forums I go to seemed to decide all at once that they didn't like my password and wouldn't log me in. No where else does that happen. I just realized recently how to fix it.

Anyways here my question, how do you possese a unit? It sounds very cool to do.

Select the unit and press 'C' on the keyboard. The unit you are trying to possess must have a weapon of some sort, so you cannot possess builders/scouts/transpots/etc. Its fun, and you can get some good target practise in.
