If the map converter is something like sharpmap wich allow you to place easly feature...yes, indeed :)
(or a converter to 0.5x map to 0.6x? I don't think so)

yes as a matter of fact I'm still using sharpmap as it will display the heightmap values to test the map in old versions of spring before compliing the final version in the new map format.
so a new version of sharpmap for the new map format would be great
any chance of getting a .smd generator in the new version?

The current version is ALOT better than the one listed here, I just havnt gotten around to uploading a new one yet. I will also be making a basic frontend to help you compile a map, and mabey even compress it. But an interactive feature placer is NOT in the works, as it would simply be to hard. However, using mothers map converter, it is already possible to place features from a feature map (another picture like the metal map).

Well I am working on something along those lines, although not as advanced yet. Heres a screenshot of the latest version...

Currently the map compiler code isn't built in yet although I have been planning it. I'd be more than willing to work with you, except I don't do C#, C++ all the way baby!
/edit/Latest version
here.

That looks like a front end to the command prompt version. Which doesn't do anything for large files.
My program has the algorithms re-written to accomidate large files so it isn't an easy thing.

What we really need is a way to stitch together multiple bmps to make the map, because it's very difficult to make anything particularly large and still have the detail we want. I took a look at it and got utterly lost, and Mother tried to work on it....well, my best guess is that it ate him, because I haven't seen him since...

Do you even look at your spelling before putting this stuff online?

Yes, any spelling mistakes are there because I'm too much of a man to admit they were spelling mistakes. So they will stay, for aslong as I still draw breath.

A TA style tile system would be awesome, but I personally don't know how to split it up in neat little tiles that fit.
If I just knew how to work bryce I could do that.
